Rockin' Rhonda Posted January 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Has anyone been to the Dzibilchaltun Ruins in Mexico? We are docking at Progresso and trying to find a shore excursion that doesn't take all day like Chichen Itza. These look pretty nice, with cenote for a little swimming to cool off:D Thanks for your help, guys!
clackey Posted January 14, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Hola cruisemate, We visited Dzib two years ago. It was after they had been hit by a hurricane and the veg was torn up and part of the musuem was closed because of roof damage. It is a pretty interesting tour with lots of history. The guides take pride in their ancestry and it shows. The ruins cover a large area, but only the most interesting items are uncovered and are on the tour. You could spend a week there and not see it all. We booked through the cruiseline but would find an independent if we were going to do it again. Do a google. There are more ruins close to Progrreso that don't get the attention that Dzib or Uxmal get. P.S. Take plenty of film or a large memory card.:D
DEL67 Posted January 15, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 15, 2006 I have been to Dzibilchaltun twice and enjoyed both visits because we had different guides who focused on different aspects of the ruins and Mayan life. The ruins are only about a half hour from the pier so they are an easy half day trip. The first time, I even went for a swim in the Cenote which was a great way to cool off after touring the ruins.
