scubamargie Posted January 16, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2006 We may end up in Playa del Carmen instead of Grand Cayman on our Grand Princess cruise. If so, does anyone know of a good dive operator in Playa del Carmen? Any sites we should request? Thanks for any info.
billeelou Posted January 17, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2006 SEALIFE is on the beach I have been told, and has a good reputation for both cave Cenote/ diving and ocean diving....As all dives in that area the OCean is Drift diving.... bruce-r Posted January 18, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2006 If you end up on the mainland instead of Cozumel, you really, really should try a cenote dive. The mainland of the Yucatan is the only place you can do this. http://www.lorenz.pl/angel/usver/reef/cave.htm for more info. This link comes from the Blue Angel dive shop in Cozumel ( http://www.lorenz.pl/angel/usver/intro/page1.htm ) they offer trips to do cenote dives. Theotur Posted January 20, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2006 There are a few dive operations in Playa Del Carmen. Last February I dove for 3 days with Tankha. You can visit their website @ http://www.tankha.com/ for additional information. I would recommend them highly, as they run a professional operation. The one dive that I particularly liked was the Tortuga (turtle) dive. Although not much to see in the way of coral reefs etc... I saw so many turtles that I stopped counting. If I had to guess at least 20. Not sure what impact the hurricane may have had on this spot, but it would be worth asking about if this interests you. Also of interest are the Cenote's as detailed in the other posts. I belive this is pretty much an all day trip, so depending on your port time, this may or may not be an option. Hope this helps!
