Margaritaville Montego - Prices? Jerk? nearby?

I read a post somewhere and the person referenced the drink prices like $20 ea here. I find that hard to believe (unless it was some super-special and had like half a bottle of Teq in it). Can anyone tell me what the prices are like at Margaritaville:

1. what is the avg prices of Beer (Red Stripe?

2. what is avg price of mixed drink or margarita?

3. what is their food like, and do they have any good JERK?

4. Are there any other highly rated Jerk places nearby there, or on the way back toward the Port?

5. Are there any safe® shopping either close to Margaritaville, the ship, or somewhere close?

I am deciding between:

- taking a tour (tubing, catamarran), but if the weather is nice I would just as soon

- hang out on the beach and have some Red Stripe (Sunset Beach; and I heard the JERK there is good)

- I would like to at least see Margaritaville.

- few mins shopping for souveneers

So, maybe short trip tubing, stop for JERK and Red Stripe, then quick stop at margaritaville and shopping? do many of the local tour guys allow you to drink (red stripe) on their bus or van (hour long ride, one may get thirsty :-) )

We are heading down mid-Feb. IRIE!

Check out their website: http://www.margaritavillecaribbean.com/

Find the lost shaker of salt and get a coupon for a free drink. Remember, it's a true tourist trap, and a huge money maker for Jimmy. Prices are high, and drink & food quality are typical of such places. Can be lots of fun - but sometimes full of people just waiting for something exciting to happen.

:D Margarittaville is a blast. The first we time went to Jamaica we were there for 9 days. We went to Jimmy's place twice. That is how much fun we had. The water slide throws you out anout 20-30 ft into the water. The water trampolines are a kick. There are lockers for rent. There is a small gist shop that sells a little bit of everything, shirts, sweatshirts, glasses, and etc.

We paid approximately 3.50 for a Red Stripe and 7.00 for a mixed drink. If you want to buy a special drink that comes in a large hurricane glass, those are 19.95. :) The food is fine. Somebody in your party has to have a cheeseburger in Paradise just like the song says. I wouldn't buy the jerk chicken here though.

This place can get crowded at times. Not to mention pretty rowdy(happy drunks) when the party boats arrive. You will have a good time.:p However the Margarittaville on Ocho is much better. The one in Mo-Bay doesn't have a beach. This one sits on a cliff. There are plenty of sun decks to enjoy. If you would like more info please e-mail me at angelaandjon@charter.net

Thanks for the info DP (now I know where the $20 drinks come from :) ). I can handle 3.50 for a red strip (little on the high side, but not too bad considering what the place has to offer). sounds like the Hurricane's must have like a half bottle of Rum? :)
