cruisernewbee Posted January 20, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2019 Can anyone tell me about Le Verdon sur Mer a port in France. We are on a Princess ship. Is there anything to see in Le Verdon sur Mer or must we travel 90 minutes (one way) to Bordeaux? Thanks for any information or tips.
Lutèce Posted January 25, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 25, 2019 (edited) When are you going to be there and how long do you have? If it's in the summer, you could go to Soulac-sur-Mer, a typical French summer seaside resort and just chill out for the day. Have a day on the beach, visit a fantastic ( well it was when we were last there!) ice-cream parlour, have a leisurely seafood lunch and (probably) be the only non-European couple there. Train, bus or taxi (Rome2rio.com has details) But that might not be what interests you. You don't have to go to Bordeaux - many world class vineyards e.g Rothschild, Pauillac, Margaux are in the Médoc, the area between Le Verdon and Bordeaux. So hire a car - probably from Soulac (as I can't find anything from le Verdon in English or French)and go exploring!! Lutèce Posted January 26, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 26, 2019 You will get more replies if the title of your query mentioned Le Verdon or was in some way relevant to your question. khctraveller doesn't help😀
edinburgher Posted January 27, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2019 Welcome to your first posts, always a little daunting. If you spot you made an error after posting, if you are quick you can use the "edit" button to correct then "save" the change and the post will be amended. It is also useful to learn how to use the "search (then "this forum") feature as you can bring up all previous threads and posts relating to your question. I just now did that on your behalf, and found very little on the France boards re Le Verdon although at least one post did mention a shuttle bus to Soulac sur Mer. As that was also a Princess passenger, it might be worth reposting your thread (with a more relevant subject title) on the Princess board as you might find out if they usually offer a shuttle service, where it goes, and if it is free or has a charge. This because different lines could have different arrangements for bigger ships which cannot sail into Bordeaux itself.
edinburgher Posted January 27, 2019 #5 Share Posted January 27, 2019 To find out more about anywhere you are going, try the local Tourist Info websites and others. Also go to the DESTINATIONS section here on CC. You find it by going to the top of the page and selecting DESTINATIONS from the RESEARCH drop-down. You will read where you are docked, what there is at the dock, things to do etc. As not all ports are listed, you can find more by going to any of the other sites of which there are many. A personal favourite is "whatsinport". (It has some logistical info for Le Verdon) This usually also has a link to a "cruise calendar" which shows you how many other ships will be in each port with you as passenger numbers can make a difference when trying to decide what to do. It isn't always 100% accurate either so you can try going to the official "port of (wherever)" website as many of them also show cruise calendars. Hope something from the above helps.
