Juliah67 Posted June 13, 2004 #26 Share Posted June 13, 2004 I wish I could afford to take my son on a Disney cruise, but I can't We loved the Glory and didn't notice much smoke (maybe we were hanging out at the non-smoky places?) My son loved the Glory activities and didn't see any risque shows. Unless Carnival turns their ships into adult-only, we'll continue to cruise them. They make the ship very appealing for families! Gator Man Posted June 13, 2004 #27 Share Posted June 13, 2004 Juliah 67. You made a wise choice by picking the Glory over Disney, especially with all the people you cruised with. Disney is good for your immediate family, but probably not as an extended family gig.
CruisinMK Posted June 13, 2004 #28 Share Posted June 13, 2004 Disney is far better than Carnival, and this is coming from a real Carnival fan. It is also far more expensive, but I feel worth it! Straight off, the staff are far better on Disney, period. Everything on the ship is noticably better run, including boarding/deboarding. Some of the dining rooms are fairly stunning, and the movie theater is absolutely second to none. The specialty restaurant is absolutely first rate. There is no casino on Disney, but if anything, that is a plus for me personally. The lack of smoking is also a real benefit for me. I had low expectations for the cruise, expecting an overdose of Disney characters and screaming children. The truth was the opposite -- the kids program is so compelling, that much of the cruise feels like an adults only experience. Both families with children and those without were thrilled. If you stroll through the kids program you can see why the kids refuse to leave it -- it looks like the tv studio set of nickelodeon. Seeing it, I suddenly regretted not being a kid anymore. As for the adult experience, I can tell you my group had far more fun dancing on Disney than on any other cruise. The rooms on Disney are on the small side, as is true for newer ships on all lines. The 3/4 day itineraries go to the Bahamas, one of my lowest priority destinations. I'd do 7 day if you can afford it, which goes to far better places. I did a 4 day and still had a fantastic time though, so don't hesitate to give it a try if you can afford it.
bjkeen Posted June 13, 2004 #29 Share Posted June 13, 2004 Disney has lovely ships. I have been on ships parked next to them in the Bahamas and E. Caribbean. The Disney ships do not have Casino's. verab Posted June 13, 2004 #31 Share Posted June 13, 2004 I have to vote for Disney, too! I went with an 11year old and 5 year old. They loved all of the childrens programs and had a great time. We hardly saw our little one because she prefered to be in the kids program. The ship is by far one of the nicest ships I have been on and the staff is excellent! Even though you rotate restaurants, your wait staff follows you and we really enjoyed going to a different restaurant each night. Also, we never felt crowded or over run with children as you would think of on Disney. I would highly recommend this cruise, even if it cost a little more. You definately get what you pay for! You will not be disappointed!
