Miami Port -first timer questions

New cruisers leaving in 22 days! Flying into FLL day early, renting car to drive to Miami port on Sunday for our first ever cruise.

We have a group of 8 that we don't want to have to make ride the shuttle from the MIA airport after we drop off the rental. Can we drop some of our group off someplace within walking distance to the port (would Bayside Marketplace work?) and if we can, how easy would it be to find them once we rode the car rental shuttle back to the port? Would it be easier if we took a taxi back to the place we drop them?

What can we expect when we get to the port (via car rental shuttle or taxi)? Would it just be easier if we made everyone ride the shuttle? How long is the ride and do they use their regular airport shuttle buses or something different/more comfy?

Thanks in advance. Just trying to tie it all together!

You don't want to walk from Bayside to the Port of Miami (a long walk, and not a safe walk). There is nowhere to drop them off "within walking distance to the port". You should drop them and all of your luggage off at the port - AT your ship's terminal. The porters are right out front and will take your checked luggage. If you rent a car from Avis or Hertz they have downtown Miami offices (a 5 minute cab ride from the port), otherwise you'll have to return the car to the MIA airport locations of the other companies. SOME have shuttles back to the port (it's 20 minutes or so from MIA to the Port of Miami). If you wanted to take a taxi from MIA to the port it's a flat/fixed rate of $24.

Does anyone know what the Taxi fare is from Ft. Lauderdale airport to the Port of Miami?

Thank you,

Roughly $75-90, which is the same or more than a TownCar from a limo company will usually cost. You do NOT want to take a taxi from FLL to Miami! Renting a car is usually the least expensive way, but if you don't want to mess with that either book a private car, or take Tri-County/Airport Express' van service at $18 per person.

Both are reliable, reputable local companies.

That was fabulous thank you very much, I just finished making a reservation and the cost was $54.00 for 3 of us. I appreciate your help :)
