mnsawyer Posted January 24, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2006 Looking for those who have sailed on the Miracle in cat 7A cabins, specifically on Upper deck. Can save some $$ but website and brochure indicates "obstructed view" but have read on this board that the lifeboats come up only to the top of the balcony railing so you can still see out beyond the top of the railing?? It's only $150 in savings but want to be sure we won't be disappointed either. Thanks!
Rare 01Sweetpea Posted January 24, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2006 We had cabins 5179 & 5181 on our Miracle cruise. The top of the lifeboats came up to the bottom of our balcony, so we could see out to the sea and the port, but could not look down. For us it was fine, and I would book them again. I have pics, but don't know how to post them.
mnsawyer Posted January 24, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted January 24, 2006 Sweetpea - thanks for the quick response. I have a quote on cabin 5231 which is 7A. Is more savings than expected - about $260. Would you mind e-mailing me any pictures you feel would help? My e-mail address is mary.sawyer@interfacefabrics.com Thanks!! serene56 Posted January 24, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2006 http://community.webshots.com/photo/387233377/387234659CUZkje see the gentleman standing at the rail?? that is his cat 7A http://community.webshots.com/photo/387233377/387235121dzyGPY http://community.webshots.com/photo/344241236/344244281yChuIV http://community.webshots.com/photo/344241236/344244354ESVjKj consider a 5a with french doors-- they open but you cant go outside. http://community.webshots.com/photo/212082956/226986759UkSVWX These 7a balconies are very narrow. If expecting to have lounge chairs out there yoiu could be in for a huge disappointment. Knowing ahead of time helps a great deal
virginiab Posted January 24, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 24, 2006 On the 7A balconies you will find one lounge chair, one armchair, and a small low table. The balconies are narrow, but, hey, they ARE balconies. Every once in a while, a crew member will need to to something in or on the lifeboats, so close the curtains, or at least check outside before you undress... robebrady Posted January 24, 2006 #8 Share Posted January 24, 2006 Just returned from cabin 5183 upper deck on the Miracle. This balcony was plenty spacious and had a lounger, table and chair. The lifeboat could be seen but did not obstruct our view of the islands and ocean. We could not look straight down into the ocean but could see well over and beyond. I would not hesitate to book another cat 7A.
mnsawyer Posted January 25, 2006 Author #9 Share Posted January 25, 2006 Thanks everyone for the e-mails and posting responses. I now have a good idea of what the 7A category looks like!
loudbmw Posted January 25, 2006 #10 Share Posted January 25, 2006 Here's a tip for booking a 7A Obstructed balcony on a Spirit class ship. The first three lifeboats are actually the ships tenders and are taller. The view is better once you go aft past the first three lifeboats (look at the deck plans). I also think the ride is a lot smoother the further back you go. Lou
serene56 Posted January 25, 2006 #11 Share Posted January 25, 2006 . This balcony was plenty spacious and had a lounger, table and chair. . the lounger--- is it the kind by the pool?? or a chair that the back goes back
Binney Posted January 25, 2006 #12 Share Posted January 25, 2006 We were on the Legend in cabin 5161 (which was a 7A on that boat). It was acceptable, but for the small upgrade to a 8A or BL (guaranteed balcony) it is well worth the money! The downside of obstructed view: 1. the obstructed view - since the boats are orange you look at them whether or not you want to 2. these boats get washed by crew so either you are looking at them, them at you or your stuff on the balcony gets wet. 3. One of the boats picked up a huge bug in port which ended up on our balcony while we were out there sitting. The screaming, jumping and laughing is worth the memories...but The upside of obstucted view: It IS a balcony that you can go out onto!
