LaQuinta Ft. Lauderdale Airport & Restaurants

Was curious if anyone knew anything about the following restaurants that seem to be in walking distance of the LaQuinta at the FLL Airport.....are they any good (only one I've heard of is TGI Fridays) and are they really in walking distance? We're not looking for anything fancy and we won't have a car. There's 8 of us ranging in age from 7 - 75.

I am not sure where LaQuinta is located. We ate at Sal's on 1/12/06. It is an informal neighborhood Italian resturant in the back corner of a strip mall. We had pizza which was good - not great, but good. We did see lots of other dishes being served and all looked good. They seem to have quite a bit of repeat business as the wait staff knew people's names. Also there is a small area for outside dining.

Sweet Tomatoes is a chain. There is a big salad bar, pizza, and potatoes. I have been to one for lunch. Food is ok for lunch but I wouldn't go there for dinner unless you want more of a salad and pizza. If you google sweet tomatoes there are sites with lots of reviews.

Dave and Buster's is a chain also. I haven't been in one in a long time but the food was ok. They have lots of pool tables and shuffle boards tables. It is a very popular place in Atlanta. There is a menu at this link. http://www.daveandbusters.com/?f=1

Thank you....I had read somewhere (can't remember where now) that Dave and Busters was fun for the kids. I'll check out the website.

Hi Laura

I stayed at La Quinta last year and will be there in 10 days for pre cuise stay.

The restaurants are within walking distance. I ate twice at the Hollywood

Ale House. The food was good I plan on eating there again this year. Last

year the front desk at the hotel gave us a 10% off coupon.

There is also a Red Lobster. We had lunch there and dinner at Sal's. No complaints with either. The LaQuinta staff were recommending The Ale House. Do not hesitate to use the shuttle on return from dinner with a nice tip for the driver. daveandbuster's is cool.

Does anyone know how far this hotel is to the FLL port? Does the hotel offer a shuttle to the pier, if not, how much should I expect to pay for a taxi?

Thanks in advance for your help:)

I just called this hotel today and confirmed that they DO have a shuttle to the pier. They drop off, but they do NOT pick up. We are staying at this property on 3/11 and I hope it's nice. We have 13 family members (age 4 months to 62 years) in 5 rooms/suites and I don't want anyone to be disappointed.

This is a very nice hotel. The rooms are large, and you can even open the windows! The continental breakfast is the typical, juice, cereal, pasteries etc.

Kari, If you search these boards you'll find many favorable reviews of this property. Enjoy your stay. ;)

Bequia,

I have been looking at the boards and I have really come to count on the opinions of you and the other CC locals. We originally booked the Comfort Suites, but after reading the boards it sounds like La Quinta is a better choice. If ESA had larger rooms with more beds (and cribs) we would probably stay there. Thank goodness for these boards! Thank you, all!

Gizmo,

Thank you . . . it makes we feel better to hear feedback from opinions I value. It sounds ideal for us.

Kari, I forgot to mention the Starlight Diner for breakfast. Huge portions with typical diner (low) prices. You can see it from the hotel. Then again you can't beat a free continental breakfast either. ;)

Bequia, We like a free breakfast, but the whole group REALLY likes diner food! Do you know if they are open for lunch and/or dinner?

Starlite diner IS open for lunch and dinner as well (for some reason I think they're open 24 hours, but can't remember for sure)... It's new, but looks like one of those old 1950's highly polished stainless steel train cars or trailers. It's quite cool, and the food is decent.

Thanks a bunch, TrentS. This is right up our alley!

Kari, We always book a pre-cruise night at this LaQuinta, most recently for our holiday b2b last month. The rooms are very clean and spacious, the staff very friendly and helpful. Their cont'l breakfast is more extensive than we've found elsewhere and even includes make-your-own waffles. You won't be disappointed, for sure.
