FLL to MIA car rental

Has anyone rented a car from Avis at FLL, then dropped it off at MIA and taken the Avis shuttle to the Pier? Just seems like a hassle to me.

Would it be easier to rent from a company where I can drop off at a local hotel and then take the rental company shuttle to the pier? If so, which companies are good for this?

Daughter & I did this with Alamo in March. Was not a hassle and saved the $ of cab or cruise line transfer plus had the car for pre-cruise touring in FLL. The closest hotel drop is the Sherton Biscayne Bay for National and they DO NOT have pier shuttle from any location, neither does Budget. Re-check with Avis and make VERY sure they offer pier shuttle.

Yes, alamo has to/from pier shuttle and there is no drop off charge anywhere in FL for any of the car rental companies. However, DO NOT do priceline as their system insists on sam pick-up return point.

2 years ago we did Avis. We flew in the night before to FLL and dropped it off at the pier. It was not a problem.. After dropping the car off, the shuttle was waiting and took us right away to the terminal.

I actually had to call the shuttle back, because I had left my sunglasses in the car when we dropped it off.

If we were flying in the day prior, I would not have a problem doing it again.

I chose to use the Carnival shuttle from the FLL airport to the port of Miami, it's only $16PP oneway or $32RT, depending how many is in your party, it might be worth the less hassle!?!

Good luck!
