Where to pre-night in NYC?

Can anyone recommend a hotel to stay pre-embarkation night in New York City? We need a place where we can keep the car during the cruise (for free? )

Lots of luck with that one. From researching the sites for a hotel room it seems they all charge for parking --even if you are staying there and fees range from 10 bucks a night to 24 a night.

Also, using biddingfortravel.com I cant find a cheap hotel at all.

I remember a thread a few months ago about a nice hotel near Newark NJ that does EXACTLY what you said. Let's you park there while on a cruise. I think you can then get cab from the hotel to the pier. Try using the find key -- sometimes it works great!

For $145 per night...included room (4 person max), up to 10 days parking. You'd have to arrange transportation to pier. The site mentions a fee based hotel shuttle to Penn Station so they might shuttle you to port for a fee. Hotel is about 1/2 mile from Newark airport which is closest of the 3 airports to the pier.

Spectram,
I could make a fortune on this website. I live just across the river in NJ and have a big driveway and an SUV.
Anyway, there is a Sheraton in Weehawken, NJ which is located on the Hudson River (awesome view) right near the NYWaterway (NYWaterway.com) ferry where you can park for about $10 a day.
Hotel prices (decent hotel) in the Metro Area range anywhere from about $79.00 night and up, depending on how far away from the City you go. The Sheraton is in the mid $100 area.
The ferry from NJ to NY will take you to 38th St. Pier. You could take the NYWaterway shuttle to Carnival Pier (around 51st or so) or take a taxi.

You might also try calling Carnival; sometimes they have contracts with local hotels.

Hope this helps!

Depending on the time of day, the shuttle doesn't run up to 51st on 12th, but turns at 44th to Eighth Avenue.

We cruised out of NYC in September and stayed at the Marriott Renaissance in East Rutherford NJ. The rates were very reasonable....I think we paid 129 but I'm not positive and we left our cars there (3 of them) for free for the week. We used a shuttle/limo service called Angelos.

My wife and I have stayed at The Hudson Hotel twice on a non-cruise vacation. They have a deck that you can use for sunning that has a good view of the pier.

The hotel rooms are really small. We have stayed in a standard room and the larger superior room. We had less space in either of the rooms then in the cabins we have been in.

During the day the lobby is real quiet and soothing but at night (at least on the weekends) it's loud because of the Hudson Bar. The Bar is the place to be seen in NYC, and there was a scene in Sex In The City that took place in the Bar and a hotel room. The rooms have a shower that has a view of the bedroom.

When you check in you are given your key and an "ID Card" that you show to charge things to your room and get into the Hudson Bar. There is also a restuarant off the lobby that is as good as the Golden Fleece on The Carnival Legend, though it was very pricey.

They have a couple internet specials they run. We got the parking included and they also have breakfast included rates.

They have High Speed Internet Service in the rooms for around $10.00/day, and free WIFI in the lobby. They rent ethernet cables or you can bring your own.
