Mosquitoes in Feb?

Grand Cayman has an active mosquito control program. We're hoping our MRCU (Mosquito Research and Control Unit) is able to resume aerial spraying soon, though I don't know if that's likely to happen before your trip.

As anywhere, mosquitos are mostly a problem a few days after a heavy rain. February is solidly in our drier season, rain is possible, but not as often. Last year it was very dry in February.

Also, mosquitos are at their worst near dawn and dusk. Fortunately for our cruise visitors, tendering schedules usually will keep you away at peak times of the day.

I am hearing that many previous cruise visitors to GC have not been able to Tender due to weather, rough waters, etc. Just wondering is there a certain time of the year that has more of a problem with weather, or is it just a hit-miss? We're coming in Feb 22nd week. Thanks.

Winter months (ie cruise ship high season) are more likely to bring a change in wind direction which can prevent tendering. When a cold front drops down out of the Gulf of Mexico, we sometimes get a wind shift to the northwest which can disrupt tendering by bringing high seas.

This is less likely to occur during the summer months, though that can bring and entirely different weather hazard... hurricanes.
