Scotty1 Posted January 27, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Has anyone taken the scenic St. Kitts rail tour ? It sounds nice but would like to hear from someone that has taken it.
SheilaNC Posted January 27, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2006 We took the tour 2 years ago. It was an interesting way to see a part of the island that we hadn't seen before. Doesn't go to the main town, Basseterre and when the train ride ends, you transfer to a bus to return to the ship via a different route. If you've never been to St. Kitts and don't want to do a beach trip or the fort (which is lovely), it's a nice way to see the island. We enjoyed it but wouldn't do it again. Hope this helps. BILLP1 Posted January 29, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 29, 2006 We also enjoyed it even though the rear car derailed. The train goes real slow and no one realized that it happened until they moved people from the rear car foward to the next cars. Beautiful trip and great way to see the island. otcsteve Posted February 23, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 23, 2006 We just did the train ride in early January 2006. We love trains and it is a neat way to see parts of the island one generally would not. Ours had complimentary beverages and a small singing group. We particularly liked the fact that they carried only enough passengers so everyone could be either outside or in the airconditioned portion below! Beautiful views of the ocean! I only wish they would announce ahead of time when a 'Kodak' moment was approaching.
bgood Posted February 23, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 23, 2006 I just saw that the guy who ran the White Pass & Yukon Railway in Skagway AK is now in charge of this train. Makes sense...who'd want to winter in Skagway? Anyhow, they ran a great tour in Alaska, so I'd expect this one to run well, too. bgood
Coolmama_1 Posted February 24, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 24, 2006 We took this in 04 and really enjoyed it. Took lots of pictures and it was a great way to see the rest of the island. The children would come running down to the tracks and wave at you when you went by. There was a little car that went ahead of us to make sure the tracks were clear. Had to clean branches etc and even remove a cow!:D
