bkw67 Posted January 28, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2006 My Sister-in-law and her husband are going to Grand Cayman on a Cruise next month. She is intrested in going to Sting Ray City and would also like to go to "The Wall" (they are dive certified, but they are not sure they want to dive this trip). Anyway, is there any tours that hit both? And if more than one, what is your recomendation as to the "BEST". Thanks in advance!!!!
drew sailbum Posted January 28, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 28, 2006 In the scuba world, the Cayman Islands are known for the sheer underwater walls. A short distance from shore the undersea floor drops away sharply into the abyss in a wall that surrounds the island. The top edge of this wall is about 40 to 70 feet underwater. Perfect for scuba diving, but not so great for just snorkelling. The water is certainly clear enough to see the edge for the drop all the way from the surface, but you can't see a lot of detail. It'll be hard to distinguish the various corals and to see the abundance of small fish that call the reef home. It's fairly unusula to take snorkelers to a site on teh edge of the wall. I'm sure if they want to charter a boat, the cpatian will be happy to take them wherever they want to go. But if they are already scuba divers, why not dive? If skills are a little rusty, I'm sure they can find a review with a local divemaster before their trip. Talk to a local dive center.
bkw67 Posted January 28, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted January 28, 2006 I talked with her this morning, and she is now saying they want to "Dive" the Wall. But they also want to go to Stingray city. Any recomendations?
Bequia Posted January 28, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 28, 2006 We've used Captain Marvins, wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Fantastic outfit! ;) http://www.captainmarvins.com/
drew sailbum Posted January 28, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 28, 2006 Sounds like they need a small dive operator. Try contacting Neptunes Divers. Perhaps Casey can accomodate them or recommend someone who can.
budaman Posted January 29, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 29, 2006 One of the Princess excursions is SRC & a North Wall dive. Did some research and they use Resort Sports which is located at Spanish Bay Resort. http://www.caymanresortsonline.com/spanishbay/Home.htm If Carnival soesn't offer it as an excursion, they could probably set it up themselves.
