mellowmamma Posted February 1, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2006 Going on the Wind 3/1 to Hawaii and hope someone can help with a question. The ship returns to Honolulu at 8a.m. and our flight doesn't leave until 11:45 p.m. We would love to go to Pearl Harbor and other areas but what do you do with your luggage? The airport has no lockers and you can't check your bags until 6 hours before the flight. Any help would be appreciated.
electricron Posted February 1, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2006 The trunk of your taxi or rent-a-car is the obvious solution. That's why cars have trunks. If you're taking a bus tour, the buses usually have luggage compartments. Just load 'em bags in.
Big Al B. Posted February 1, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 1, 2006 Check the line's shore excursions. They often have one that is designed for passengers flying out later. It ends at the airport. We did one like this to the rainforest from San Juan. Made a long day nicer.
jeandke Posted February 1, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 1, 2006 Just got off the Pride of Aloha 1-28 at 8:30 Am our flight did not leave until 4:00PM checked our luggage with the sky cap and he was able to get us boarding passes for our 4:00 PM flight. It was nice to get rid of that luggage, then went shopping. Jim and Kathy
karfest Posted February 1, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 1, 2006 Everything I read warned us about leaving luggage in the trunk so I was also concerned about what to do. Luggage can be checked at the pier for $5/ bag but must be picked up by 5pm. Instead of hassling with traffic, etc., we took a circle island tour through NCL. The luggage went under the bus with us, they dropped us at the airport in plenty of time for our flight. It was an enjoyable, relaxing day. The PoA offered 3 different tours, depending on flight times, check your excursions book to se what the Wind offers.
beachchick Posted February 2, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 2, 2006 I disagree with the "just load up the trunk" idea for several reasons. First, it's hot in Hawaii (duh, I know). It's just that if you have anything in your luggage that might be affected by heat, such as medicine, toiletries, or food items, they would not do well in a car trunk all day. Second, there are no more car break ins than in any other place, but there are no fewer either. Third, if the luggage doesn't all fit in the trunk, then you're stuck with having it inside the car. That takes space and makes the car even more of a target for break ins. I believe you can check luggage at the port until 7 pm (don't know the cost). You could also try to get a day room at a couple of hotels (not many do this, but if you do a search on this forum you'll find several threads from the past several months). That way, you can spend the day touring the island (hiking, swimming, snorkeling, etc.) and have a place to take a shower and relax before boarding your plane. Have a great time. beachchick
