StefanieMS Posted April 23, 2004 #26 Share Posted April 23, 2004 Tip for shoes! Take a duffel type bag for your shoes (pack a couple in the suitcase in case GF the bag is lost). This really lightens up the suitcase (especially if you keep the bath stuff in a seperate bag too). Jennifer.. ebay, ebay ebay... I just bought a tux for my son on ebay. Jacket, pants, shirt, cumberbund and tie, vest and tie and shoes. $89 + $12 shipping. It is wool, Chaps by Ralph Lauren. He looks great in it. THe seller was MONKEYSUITS. My sons friends are renting for the same price. FurryCruiser Posted April 23, 2004 #29 Share Posted April 23, 2004 Well, my partner and I are about the same as we have been. Tux for the formal nights, suit if on one of the ships that has a club (like David's on the Pride), more casual nights a nice shirt and tie but no jacket. Just depends upon what you feel and enjoy. For us, "dressing" for dinner is part of the enjoyment. FurryCruiser Carnival Ectasy 04/03 Carnival Pride 01/04 Carnival Fantasy 07/
afdds Posted April 24, 2004 #30 Share Posted April 24, 2004 Still love to dress up on both formal nights. Sun dresses or skirt and tops the other nights. This time I'm thinking of doing something wild with my shoes. Did you notice that all the stars on the Red Carpet wore flip flops under their gowns? Yap, my daughter is even wearing a pair too prom this year. She found a pair at Stein Mart that look like dress shoes, but soft and squishy on the bottom. Makes more since on a rough sea. Dec. 2003 on the Legend I had to take my shoes off just to walk. Ok, am I crazy or can I pull this off? Cruising89143 Posted April 24, 2004 #31 Share Posted April 24, 2004 When I started cruising I always dressed for the formal nights and never missed eating in the dining room. Now I never take formal clothes. I eat upstairs in the lido dining room as not to disturb the ones in the formal dining rooms. For me a long sleeve collared shirt, dockers and dress shoes is as formal as I get. I also pack much less today than I did even two to three years ago. Brneyznfl Posted April 24, 2004 #32 Share Posted April 24, 2004 I use to stress about my clothes. I can remember the first cruise, everything coordinated down to the shoes and jewelry. Now I just stress over whether anything is going to fit after all the eating I've done on these cruises! marvholly Posted April 24, 2004 #35 Share Posted April 24, 2004 Jennifer: RE: Tux They can be rented on the ship. About $100 for the entire week. However, this is the time of year many stores have good prices on them Hubby bought one last year at this time as we cruised in June and DD got married in Aug. He spent about $100 for the outfit locally and after tailoring (about $50more) had a MUCH better fit than a rental would be. And we still have it for future cruises and other DD wedding 7/05 for our $150 rather than about $200 in rental for last year alone. Check out clothing discounters like Value City, Imperial Clothier, Filenes etc in the nearest really big city. Holly M/S Boheme 11/69 Rhapsody 2/77? Sue Sue Posted April 24, 2004 #36 Share Posted April 24, 2004 My packing habits have changed since I started cruising. I have learned over the years how to be a creative packer and that your attire for cruising can be based on what mood you want to be in. Formal to the nines, go for it, Casual as all get out, why not? Forturnatley there are dining and dining room options. This year, DH is in his "New slimmed down" black suit and I have a "New slimmed down" black beaded cocktail dress for first formal. Second formal DH..same suit, different shirt/tie , me, a frilly, cute black again..cocktail dress. Same black shoes for the dresses as well as black slacks for 3 casual nights. I will dress the slacks "Up" with resort casual tops. I also choose outfits for daytime activities that I can mix and match.
