SuzieQK Posted April 22, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2004 Hubby 48, myself 47 and son 15 cruised this time around. Got to the ship at 11am.Dropped off our luggage with the porter, we had paid for an 8e guarantee, found out we were upgraded to an 11-whoohooooo!!! Cabin # 7333, not as big as the 11's on the Triumph but wonderful, nontheless. Embarkation was a breeze, since we were now part of the Skippers Club. The woman actually walked us up to the front of the line and we were on the ship by 12:15. Our room wasnt quite ready yet, but we could drop off our carry ons and go investigate the ship. The Glory is typical Carnival, wild colored carpets, but a bit more subdued overall. A lot of lounges and small clubs. White Heat Dance club is great! Got lunch at the Red Sail restaurant, everything very good. Carving station had excellent ham, and leg of lamb. In the days to come ate a lot at the Fish and Chips place on deck ten. Loved their fish, eventually ordered only the fish and got fries at the grill. Turkey subs at the Deli were very good too. Hamburgers and fries at the grill in back on Lido deck were fantastic. Hubby would get a plate of fries for a snack during the afternoon. Ice cream machines always good and super buzy, served both ice cream and frozen yogurt. We were given a table for 8 in the Golden Restaurant with a 6:15 seating time. We really prefer a small table, but for all of the nights except the last one, our dinner companions never showed up. Food was hot and very good, the creme brulee and tiramisu were worth having seconds of.Didnt eat at the Emerald Supper Club. Shows were ok, not up to par for Carnival, the costumes were beautiful, the magic show rated a B-. The talent show was horrendous(sorry my opinion) The comedian Percy Crews was very funny, he did a late night R rated show Thursday night and also a family show on the last night . Met up with fellow Cruise Critic members Monday at the bar called “On the Greenâ€. Its really nice to get to know people on this board before the cruise then meet to put the faces to the names. It makes my vacation that much more special to make new friends. HI ALL YOU GUYS!!!! I managed to win a few hundred on slots in the casino-but hubby managed to lose everything he bet on.ugh!! Not too smoky in there when I played. Ports of Call- Key West- been there, done that so many times before. They use buses and the trolleys to get passengers back and forth, heard that it was a mess toward the end of the day, not enough transportation for the number of people. Hubby and I walked around, bought sunglasses because silly me left mine at home. Stopped at the Tortuga Rum store to buy 4 rumcakes for us and family back home. They do sell them on the ship but cheaper at the store even when the ship has its sale. Belize- Tenders, tenders, tenders. It was unseasonably cool for Belize.Only in the high 70's lower 80's. We booked our tour with X-Stream online months before the cruise. Carnival really didnt like that we wanted to tender out on the first boat, told us we had plenty of time, to come back at 9am. But me being the worrywart that I am, I wanted to be on the first tender-no problem, unfortunately the other passengers that booked the same tour didnt make it til almost an hour later.Even though they say that Belize is 2 hours behind ship time, make sure you ask and ask again how to go about tendering when you have a private tour. We did the cave tubing excursion. Richard from X-Stream met us at the dock, introduced us to Charlie our guide, we then waited for the others to tender and off we went. We only had 11 on our tour, X-Stream takes a max of 14, where Carnivals group for the cave tubing was a group about 40. And it was $60 vs $89. We got back to the boat before Carnivals group-so no need to worry about missing it..We had a blast! I would book X-Stream again in a heartbeat. Cozumel-again another port we have visited often. We were going to snorkel on our own, but I wasnt feeling too great that morning, so did a little shopping and hopped back on the ship for a quiet day in the sun. Most of Carnival’s tours were cancelled due to high waves, even the party boat was cancelled.. It was very windy and cool that day, again very unseasonable for the Carribean this time of year. Progresso-didnt get off the ship. Last sea day- It was so cold and windy in the morning that the people on the upper deck, including myself were wrapped up in our carnival towels til about 10am. If you grabbed a chair on the Lido deck the wind didnt hit you so bad, and it was much warmer. Debarkation–we were the first color to be called after those who had Space tours and early flights and those who carried off their own luggage. We were off the ship by 8:15 and on our way on the Avis shuttle by 8:50. We had a great time, already booked my cruise for next year-can you say ADDICTED?!?! carabou1 Posted April 23, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2004 How much smaller is the 11s on the Glory? Where do you think the difference is? Thank you for your reply
SuzieQK Posted April 23, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted April 23, 2004 there was a Funpass que and a regular checkin que. There wasnt anyone in the funpass line when we got there. I did fill out the funpass online. I think in would be faster if you do. Cant say why the 11's were smaller than on the Triumph. Unless you were fortunate enough to get a corner cat. 11 dont think it would be worth paying the extra $$. SuzieQK Posted April 23, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted April 23, 2004 I want to say Wed. I will check with hubby to make sure and if its different I will post it. We were a bit disappointed in the past guest party. The had at each seat a little plate of wierd canapes, and drinks were very limited to wine, melon balls, screwdrivers,or rum punch. Pompey Posted April 23, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 23, 2004 Question about the cave tubing in Belize. My kids and I really want to do it and would like to book it through X-Stream. However, my husband is a very poor swimmer and therefore nervous about agreeing to doing it. What do you think? Will he ever be out of his depth or have to swim. Thanks for any feedback. SuzieQK Posted April 23, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted April 23, 2004 Pompey- we never had to get out of our tubes, and if you are concerned about anyone, all you have to do is tell your guide to keep an eye on him and he will do well. They had rain the night before we went and we all had to wear life jackets before they would let us enter the water, but we were told be Charlie that we could take them off if we wanted to-no one did. They also have spotters standing in the water at about 3 points of the river to make sure you didnt bang into any rocks. Knights on the Beach Posted April 24, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 24, 2004 No champagne at the past guest party? Did they hold it in the show lounge, or in the back lounges like they do the captain's cocktail party? Thanks for answering all our questions! Cyt, I believe Mark Price is the CD on the Glory -- I've read that many times recently. Beth ~~~~~~~~~~~ Countdown to Glory Emerald Seas 6/86 Emerald Seas 11/87 S.S. Knights on the Beach Posted April 24, 2004 #17 Share Posted April 24, 2004 We had Mark on the Victory last year, and he is pretty funny! I thought he was great. SuzieQK Posted April 24, 2004 Author #19 Share Posted April 24, 2004 cruise director on the Glory was Mark Price. He was pretty good. The past cruise party was held in the Amber Palace, the big show area. I didnt see champagne on the trays. The Captains pre-gala party was held in 4 lounges,White Heat Dance Club, Ebony Cabaret, CinnABar,Bar Blue and through out Promende Aft. You could bounce from bar to bar, different music in each. I liked that alot better than in just won place. You met the Captain in the corridor outside the Bar Blue SuzieQK RCCL Sovereign O'Seas '96 NCL Leeward '97 Carnival Destiny '97 Carnival Destiny '98 Carnival Triumph '00 Carnival Paradise '01 Carnival Pride '02 RCCL Navigator of the Seas '03 Carnival Glory '04 My Miracle Cruise

lesdavidson Posted April 26, 2004 #22 Share Posted April 26, 2004 Thanks for saying the Talent show was bad on the Glory! My husband was the last singer! Just kidding, everyone is entitled to their opinions! I thought he did good! Just wanted to add, we were the last color called and we did not get off the ship until 12:00! The debarkation was horrible for us! Other than that it was a great cruise!
jabbo Posted April 26, 2004 #23 Share Posted April 26, 2004 On debarkation, if at all possible take a big rolling bag and do your own luggage removal from the ship. It is much faster and easier. We were in our car and out of the terminal at 7:54am. We got coffee and cereal from room service at 6:30am and were good to go!!
SuzieQK Posted April 26, 2004 Author #24 Share Posted April 26, 2004 sorry lesdavidson, but comeon what was with the 40 year old ballet/modern dance woman?! and 90% of the talent had none-lol see this is why you have to read alot of opinions on this board-our debarkation was like jabbo's very very easy. Dnot know what happens to the other cruisers, just that mine experience was wonderful!
