HELP! We're first-timers and are having troubles figuring out what to pack to wear. We know about the formal and smart casual dress. Also about when we're off the ship. What about on the ship? Are shorts and thongs allowed in the dining NOT at night? On casual nights, is it ok for shorts or jeans or capris? What about the different lounges/casino and shows? HOW CASUAL can we be? Lastly, how cool does it get on-board during the day and at night? I'm someone who's always cold with air-conditioning.:D

THANKS!!!!!!!

the only time i wore shorts/skirts was in mazatlan and puerto vallarta. the rest of the time i wore long pants. bring a light jacket or sweater for the evenings. once the sun goes down it gets quite chilly. im one who is always cold with A/C and i found a sweater/cardigan was a good choice.

I think it depends on the time of year you're going. I wear nice shorts, tank tops and throngs on deck and in the dining room for lunch, no bathing suits. I always pack jeans and a sweather in case it gets cool.

In the dining room in the evening I don't think jeans are suggested and shorts are a no no in the evening in the dining room, even on casual nights. Capris are everywhere on NCL.

In the lounges there's everything form jeans, shorts to what you wear to dinner. That's what we do, there's no sense in changing agian so we go to the shows and lounges in whatever we wore to dinner.

Hope this helped some.

PS, I forgot what board I was on and thought it was NCLboard, so I gave you mostly info on NCL. Post this question on the board of the line you are sailing and that will give you better answers.

We just go back from a VOS Riviera trip (1/22 sailing). We really only saw two formal nights - and no 'smart casual' night. On nights other than formal nights, dining room was slacks/capris and blouses for the gals, and slacks and tie-less shirts for the guys. Even saw some jeans in the formal dining room, but not much.

If you have an early seating for the dining room, be aware that you may be eating in what you wear on board Sun night - the bags may not be in your cabin 'till 7:00 pm (one of hours did not show up until 6:30 pm).

Around the ship is pretty casual (jeans and shirts) - even for the shows and bars. No bathing suits in the Windjammer, however.

In hindsight, we packed too many dressy clothes, and not enough long-pants casual clothes. The only shorts-day was PV. It was too cool everywhere else.

Definately bring a sweater and a wind-breaker for on deck and windy days on shore. My DW used her sweater most every day.
