DINKS Posted February 7, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2006 Our ship returns to Port Everglades on a Tuesday morning. Are taxis and/or shuttle services plentiful at the docks all the time? Is there much cost difference for 2 people between the two? Being that we have an 11:03am flight, we can't afford to waste time deciding that day and would like make a educated decision before we leave. I just can't imagine how you can book a pre-arranged ride when nobody can guarantee when you will be disembarking off the ship and how would you find each other in a sea of passengers? Thanks CC'ers for your input on what has worked best in past . DINKS
biensur Posted February 7, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2006 There is no shuttle pier to airport (although a monorail is planned for the future), other than the rent-a-car shuttles. If you have an 11am flight, ensure you get early debark tags - usually Red 1. You may have to request these from the Pursers Desk - they send out a debark flyer early in the cruise, asking your arrangements. Cab fare is approx $12-14 depending on if you hit all the red lights, and the drive is less than 10 minutes. Don't prebook a limo - frankly they are usually late and passengers have trouble finding them, as these vehicles are staged away from the cabs. Dinks, Taxi's are plentiful at the port, with an 11:03am flight I wouldn't think twice about taking one. The cruiseline shuttle buses are a waste of time and money at Port Everglades, taxi is the ONLY way to go. ;)
DINKS Posted February 10, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted February 10, 2006 It is always good to reconfirm the best plan of attack with "those in the know". Thanks Biensur and Bequia!
lbryant Posted February 28, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 28, 2006 Our family of 13 will be disembarking in FLL late in October (on a Sunday). Is an 11:40am flight cutting it too close? Is it likely we'll be able to get off the ship, to the airport and thru the check in lines (along with all the other passengers) in time for our flight? The ship is scheduled to dock at 7am. We asked about carrying our bags off and getting priority tags to disembark. The 11:40a flight gets us home (Oregon) at 7:30pm. The next available route gets us home at midnight. Big difference to weary travelers. Any advice would be appreciated. Laura

Lsimon Posted March 1, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 1, 2006 shouldn't be a problem to grab a taxi, especially on a Tuesday. Only time we had a problem (after doing it a couple of times) was when we disembarked on a very busy holiday period Sunday when there were quite a few ships disembarking at the same time. The port was a zoo and taxi's were scarce.
steve20832 Posted March 1, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 1, 2006 There are plenty of taxis at the ship when you get off. The fare for us was $18 for the car-load plus tip. lbryant - you should be fine with 11:40am flight.
