bookworm61 Posted February 9, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2006 I have noticed that there are 2 types of tours. Can anyone tell me the difference? (We would prefer the kind that is better for kids).
zydecocruiser Posted February 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2006 About 10 feet (of water). The main difference is being able to touch bottom and stand. The sandbar is better for kids and most people, and will have the most people and boats. http://marenostrum.org/viajes/stingray/ Note: many tours that say stingray city actually go to the sandbar which adds to the confusion. Mactarheel Posted February 10, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 10, 2006 As the previous poster mentioned, most of the excursions go to the Sandbar with is about waist deep and very friendly to children. Stingray City is about 10-15 feet deep and is typically reserved for scuba diving excursions to see the rays. I've have the opportunity to dive once at Stingray City and visit twice at the Sandbar. I actually prefer the Sandbar since you can stand, touch and even hold the stingrays. It is so much fun hearing the people squeal as the rays rub past there legs. I plan to go back this summer. It is an incredible experience that should not be missed on a stop at Grand Cayman. Bob Here's a photo I shot in 2004 of our guide at the Sandbar holding his pet female ray...
