Littlegoo75 Posted April 30, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2004 Hi. After doing much research and trying to decide whether to stick with Carnival or try RCCL or Celebrity, we've have decided to sail on the Glory - Western Caribbean- November 6th, 04 See, we've sailed the Pride in 2002 when she was doing that itinerary, and loved it. Now that some friends will be cruising with us, we know that they will like this itinerary as well, and we love the new ships, so with that, and the fact that the Carnival Currents coupon offers a good rate for this cruise, we are choosing this one. I have only sailed on a Carnival Spirit class, not the Conquest class, so I would like to know how they differ. For those of you who have sailed in early November, I would like to know how the weather was on your cruise to the Western Caribbean. Also, what kind of cabin were you in. I would like to know all of that stuff, Please. I have read different reviews - it seems like people either love or hate this ship. I am not afraid of the size- bigger = better to me on this. Some people have said that this ship is gawdy- I reviewed some pictures and some of the bars and public spaces look pretty neat to me. Anyway, I would love to hear what you all have to say about your experience, give me your 2 cents!!!! cruiseylover Posted April 30, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 30, 2004 Hi A group of us went on Glory 11/29/03 Eastern intinerary. It was great for us. The ship is big, but like you said the bigger the better. I had a Balcony 7446 aft. That was GREAT. It was my first balcony cabin and I will never get anything less. The nights were cool, a little windy not too bad. I like the fact that there were more dinning selections on this ship than any of the others I have sailed. All I can say is GO FOR IT! Littlegoo75 Posted April 30, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted April 30, 2004 I read that there is a little place to get fish and chips. How cool! I love fish and chips. Is there also a place that serves sushi? The husband loves Sushi, but I prefer my seafood cooked! Ryanne Posted April 30, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 30, 2004 We were on the Glory last September. The Fish-n-Chips place was open from about noon - 4 each day, and the Sushi bar was open early evenings.
dtchem1 Posted April 30, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 30, 2004 We sailed the Glory-western last August. The ship is big, I'll give her that. We were in a balcony deck 8 midships and loved it, none of the noise or vibrations that I've read about on this class of ship. We were concerned about it being gawdy, based on pictures, but it really isn't, and who wants institutional green when your on vacation; liven things up a bit! We loved the ship and the itinerary, except Depresso, but that's another thread. g0294 Posted April 30, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 30, 2004 we were on the glory in late oct and it was great, great ship. great food, I was not overly impressed by supper club, but rest of ship was great, never felt crowed. the only problem we had was the very short stay in key west, and cosumel, they need to stay loger, alot of people on the ship complained about that. some felt it was done by carnival to make more money on the boat. so go have a great time we did caribbean princess 10/
Littlegoo75 Posted April 30, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted April 30, 2004 You know what a great suggestion would be on this itinerary? To cut out the stop in Progresso to add more time to Key West and Cozumel. How great would it be for an overnight in Key West?! I would take full advantage of that - or even a really late night or overnight in Cozumel? When I saw that we were stopping in Progresso, the only thing that was of interest to me was visiting Chitchen Itza - and now that I have done that, I will probably just stay on the ship on the day that it calls in Progresso. Most 7 days only call at 3 ports anyway, so by skipping Progresso and concentrating on the other places would be awesome - I was actually searching for a cruise that stayed in Key West really late because it's a shame to leave from that place early, but I couldn't find much aside from one Celebrity cruise. With the Glory leaving at 6pm in November, at least we should be able to see the sunset. Also 6pm is much better than leaving at 3pm like we had to do 2 years ago. Littlegoo75 Posted April 30, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted April 30, 2004 Hi Boston, It looks like you've been on RCCL and NCL. Was the Glory your first Carnival cruise? How do you compare it with the other cruises that you have taken? Did you find the decor to be gaudy at all, or was it more of a "fun" and "cheerful" atmosphere? It looks like an interesting ship to me, but I read that a lot of people had found it gaudy. beachgal58 Posted May 1, 2004 #17 Share Posted May 1, 2004 just off the 4-17 eastern sailing on the glory, the ship is not gawdy at all. our cabin was very clean and cabin steward excellent! however, we were on the main deck, forward.....if your cabin was back in teh midship area, it stinks to high heaven! no joke, it smells like a sewer problem. we had 5 cabins on this deck, 2 were aroun the 2292 area, p-u!!! nasty. fish and chips very good. cruise director is very funny too. the robin hood story is great! 3 bears not so good. casino very tight. lots to do, never bored for sure. love the newness of the ship. beachgal58
Guest Posted May 1, 2004 #18 Share Posted May 1, 2004 Ditto everything that Beachgal just said...We were on the same sailing. The Embarkation and Disembarkation at Port Canaveral was a NIGHTMARE!!! Littlegoo75 Posted May 1, 2004 Author #19 Share Posted May 1, 2004 I sailed out of POrt Canaveral last time, I thought the embarkation/disembarkation was alright, but it was on the Pride - a smaller ship than the Glory - we'll see. By the way - the people who consider this ship Gaudy have probably been on boring ships before. I looked at some pictures and love the look of the Egyptian lounge, the Ivory lounge, the Monopoly lounge - just to name a few - I know I am going to LOVE this ship!!!!!
