Galaxy-Low Carb Menu Choices

We are sailing on 7/12 Galaxy's Eastern Med, and we're wondering if any recent cruisers can tell me if there are low-carb menu options? If so, do they list the carbs/calories on the menu? I have read that Carnival (of all the lines!) has come out with an Atkins menu, and I wonder if Celebrity has the same? I know it seems a travesty not to gorge myself on all that wondrous "free" food, but I tell myself I won't do that again this cruise!

No, they have not. You'll just have to avoid.. all the usual stuff which is not allowed on Atkins.

If there is nothing on the dinner menu which fits, you can order chicken, steak or salmon.

There's salad for lunch.

Breakfast is the hardest. I don't eat eggs away from home. Bacon is too fatty for me..and the fresh fruit is most often not ripe. So breakfast is my carb slurge of the day.

Funny thing about Atkins, we aren't allowed milk. But since I started drinking milk.. and more of it.... I've lost more weight.. and I've been able to increase my carb intake.. without gaining weight.

BTW... their "low salt" choices... aren't particularly "low" at all.

We just returned from Galaxy traveling with several who were on a low carb diet and they were very pleased with the options. The calorie count was only on one item for each course on the printed menu, which they referred to as their "light option". In the Oasis Cafe there are always salad options, cheeses and meat platters, as well as hamburgers and hot dogs during the day.

The dinner menu in the dining room always has available chicken breast, salmon and steak even if not listed for that evening.

If you have a pretty good idea of what you can eat, you'll do fine. If you have a lot of willpower (which I must admit I seem to lose on the ship) you can stick to a low calorie, low carb or low fat diet. Enjoy!

Recently Celebrity sent out a survey dealing with lowcarb meal choices. Hopefully this is a precursor to adding these items to thier menu.

I believe Princess is the one with the lowcarb choices. I have freinds who just returned from a Carnival ship and they found no lowcarb.

Hi,

As others mentioned, nothing was advertised as low carb. However, it was fairly easy to eat "lower" carb (especially if you skip the desserts and bread basket). I would say that you could even eat true low carb in the dining room with little problems. Their carb side dishes are small and there always seemed to be something of everything else that would be low carb. For example, as an appetizer you could always have a shrimp cocktail as an appetizer (careful on the cocktail sauce), they always had a broth soup each night (pretty much straight broth, but sometimes with some veggies in it...definatley no flour or other carb stuff), you can ask for a Caesar salad (not sure the carb count on the dressings), the entrees are no problem and dessert would probably need to be skipped (but they did have a sugar free ice cream each night).

Best wishes to you and enjoy your cruise!

We were on the Galaxy in April, and while we were on the Galley tour, the Galley Manager (can't remember if this was correct title) told us that Celebrity is changing their menus to include more low fat foods and also some low carb selections.

I have been on Atkins since last August (lost 35 pounds in 7 months), but I splurged while on the cruise. It was worth it, but since I've come back I've been at a stand still. I was good at breakfast and lunch, but had whatever I wanted at dinner including dessert....until about the fifth day, (10 day cruise) when I started craving the pizza in the afternoon, then came the afternoon ice cream, tea time, and finally the cinnamon buns at breakfast. WHEW! Good thing we docked when we did, they'd have had to roll me off the ship. I lost what I gained within 3 weeks, but have lost nothing else since then.

OCNGYPZ, I find your discovery interesting. I love milk, and would love to start having a glass now and then again. Has anybody else found this to happen to them?

I did the 14 night transatlantic on the Galaxy in May. My dh and I are both south beach. ON the first night I asked for a plate of raw veggies olives etc to be at our dinner place every night so we had something to much on instead of bread. It worked out great.

Also there is a special southbeach carbless recipe for pancakes we make at home. I asked the maitre D (Steven) and he asked me for the recipe. I gave it to him and every single morning including disembartation we had our pancakes made for us as soon as we walked into the dining room.

Once my waiter realized what I could not eat, he kept a special look out for hidden fats, cabs, and sugar.

We each lost 2 pounds on the cruise
