catamaran sail and snorkel

We did this tour through Princess (Grand Princess) 2 weeks ago (although it feels like we've been home so much longer!!).

We met at the end of the pier at Costa Maya and then walked a short distance to a bus. The bus took us about 5 minutes a way to a beach club and pier where we boarded the catamaran.

The crew was just great! They made sure we had a great time. We could get water or sodas on our way out to the snorkel site (no beer before snorkeling:) ) and made sure that every member of the crew made it into every picture taken - they were clearly having a great time, and so did we!

All of the equipment was provided, including snorkels that you take home with you (no issue with using a snorkel someone else had used) and they made sure you had the correct sizes. They then divided us up into 3 groups - one group was made up of beginner snorkelers (we were in this group) . Our guide made sure we were all doing okay in the water, and led us around the reef area and made sure to show us any interesting sea life he came across.

There were a few people who got into the water initially, but for various reasons decided not to snorkel and stayed on the boat. There were 2 to 3 crew members that stayed onboard with them, and everyone seemed to be having a good time in spite of not getting into the water.

Safety was a key concern. The crew made sure that we know the signals that would ask "are you okay?" and how to answer if we were okay (or not, as the case may be). There was also a boat available at all times if someone got into trouble or panicked (sp?) while in the water.

After we got back on board, the crew was again, just great. Plenty of water and beer (and there is a bathroom on board) and fun.

All in all, I would highly recommend this tour!!

Happy sailing, and be sure to report back in!!!

We will be in Costa Maya in May with our 10 year old grandson and are thinking of booking the Catamaran Sail and Snorkel. I would like to know how deep the water is and was the current very strong? Also, did they supply you with the float vests? He is a great swimmer but even though he spends summers with us here in San Diego, he lives in Tennessee and so has done most of his swimming in a pool. Also, it has been a long time since I have done much snorkeling. Like when I was a teenager living in Hawaii. By-the-way, we took our grandson on the Caribbean Princess last June and loved it. Thanks for the info. Barbara
