Snorkeling? 1st trip to St. Thomas & Maarten?

We are going on our first trip to St. Thomas and St. Maarten next month on Mariner. We particularly enjoy snorkeling. Where are the best places to go? Thanks!

There is some great snorkeling around St. John...if you are into the cruise shore excursion offerings, Captain Nautica takes you to 3 distinct locales.

On St. Maarten, unless you go on the Golden Eagle or one of those tours that goes to one of the out islands, its best to just leave the snorkel gear behind and enjoy everything the island has to offer including many beautiful beaches.

 

On St. Thomas, Sapphire Beach and Coki Beach have some pretty good snorkling. If you are adventurous, take a taxi to Red Hook, catch the ferry to St. Johns, and taxi to Trunk Bay in the USVI National Park. It has to be one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been to. There is an admission charge but with that you will find a clean beach, no vendors harassing you, and they have a real nice underwater snorkle trail that a beginner or Novice would enjoy. There is rental equiptment if you don't have your own.

Oh how I second snorkeling in St. John while in port at St Thomas. Spent alot of money on jewelery in St Maarten each time we have been there....maybe we ought to find a snorkel spot too, in case of next time....;)
