Morning icon_smile.gif Any pics would be great - but I specifically wanted to know if anyone had pics of an 8E - esp. the extended balcony as I am trying to figure out what that means...

Thx!

We were in cabin 6267 which I discovered after coming home was an extended balcony when I looked in my Carnival book at the diagram of the spirt class ships. It was not a wrap-around as I keep seeing people post. It was the width of the room about 10-12 feet and went out I am guessing 4 to 5 feet. We had 2 deck chairs made out of teak I think and a small table no chaise lounge. I thought it was nice but not great. Now I am wondering what a regular balcony looks like.

I can't complain though because I had a guarantee 8A and ended up with an 8E.

One thing too-there are very few outside cabins on this ship so if you book an outside you have a pretty good chance of being upgraded to a balcony.

I looked at the ship's diagram and the wraparound balconies are in the very front and very back of the ship. They are catagory 11 and 12 suites so not a normal balcony room. Also from the diagram the extended balconies look like they go out a little farther. So I am guessing where the normal balcony is maybe 2 and half feet-to 3 feet going out. The rooms look like they are the same size.

Normal Spirit class balconies are 40 square feet (10' x 4') and extended balconies are 60 square feet (10' x 6 '). Extended are not 3-1/2' feet out as the previous message indicated.

"Outside" cabin is probably the wrong choice of verbage. OV and Balconies are all "outside". Probably should have read "very few ocean view cabins".

Certain of the side (as opposed to aft) extended balcony cabins on Spirit-class ships are massive. Check out cabin # 6234 on Empress deck for example. That is a Cat 8E.

I have stayed in both and 8I and an 8H on the spirit class ships. If the price is close take the extended. I don't think it worth more the like $10.00 pp That's all the book price diffrence is.

This was intended to mean that the *balconies* are massive, not the cabins themselves.

we were on miracle in suite 8273 aft.it had a wraparound deck the rear portion was not quite wide enough for the chaise lounger to fully extend.we had coffee there every morning it was very nice.the room had a seperate living room with tv,vcr, telephone, and desk.in retrospect I would not spend that much on a cabin unless you are planning on spending a lot of time there which we didn't.it was our first cruise and we were celebrating an anniversary.we had a fabulous cruise and can't wait to go again.oh,it was a cat.11 suite.

Thanks everyone for the feedback - based on what I read I changed my cabin to a true aft as that balcony seems even bigger icon_smile.gif

pgmrdev I was going by memory-I did not measure it or go to the Carnival site to get measuremnets. And I said 4 to 5 feet not 3 and half feet. I was guessing and it did not seem to me there was enough length for a chaise lounge. I can believe though it was 6 feet if they say so.

I also made the point about "outside cabins" (whether that is correct expersion or not most know I am not referring to a balcony)which you prefer to call ocean view is because I ran into quite a few who had booked that and had been upgraded to a balcony. The ship also does not have alot of inside cabins either. So I am guessing even when booking an inside you could possibly end up with a balcony upstructed view.

Anyway this ship was so nice-I could care less what cabin I had. The one disapointment was in the bathroom-more like RCCL bathrooms-not the roomy shower you get on the fanasty class ships.

I am looking at an extended balcony on the Miracle. My concern is that I like to stand on the balcony and look directly down at the water. Because these balconies are above the life boats, is that going to be a problem?

The lifeboats were like 2 decks below us but we could see fine-not a problem. Now I would not have wanted to be in cabin 4267 or 5267 as my view would have been obstructed. Not a problem in 6267.

I looked at the diagram for the spirit class ships. Deck 4 is french doors obstructed view, catagory5A; deck 5 is balcony obstructed view 7A; extended balcony. These are the decks below our cabin 6267. We were in cabin 6267 which was an 8E extended balcony. Deck 7 is an 8G and deck8 is 8I above cabin 6267.

As I said when seated in the deck chairs you don't see the lifeboats-you only see them standing at the railing and they don't obstruct the view of the ocean.

You could also book an 8A-8B-8D-8F-8H for a standard balcony-so as long as you book an 8A guarantee you won't get an obstructed view.

4267 and 5267 are inside cabins so yeah--I can see that your view would be totally obstructed. But those balcony cabins in that area are marked in the brochures as being obstructed.

Hey all

I had a 8A on the Miracle in April. It was cabin 4229 almost all the way aft. It had a great view. No obstuction at all. It was just a standard size balcony with 2 chairs and a little table but the view could not be beat. Because it was on deck 4, it looked down on the outdoor promenade on deck 3, so there were no rooms directly below. It was VERY quiet, we loved it. We were originally going to go on deck 8 so it was closer to the lido but due to lifeboats and stuff we chose deck 4 and were very happier. I liked being able to look down the whole length of the ship with a clear view and also people watch the activity on deck 3 promenade.

I had also thought about a large aft balcony but am actually glad we didn't get it because I would have missed the action down the lenght of the ship an seeing where we were heading. A huge balcony on the aft does sound nice and I may try that next time to compare. But as some say, once you have a balcony it's hard to go back to not having one.

Serene-you are right-I did not look at the numbers but assumed they were the same on every floor. Yes I meant the cabins below us. I wasn't trying to be a know it all. I had the book and as there was a post with concern that an 8E would be an obstructed view I was letting them know the cabins with obstructed views were different catagories. We had the book from Carnival describing all the cruise and ships for the 04-05 season which we had ordered earlier this year. I just figured I would be nice and help someone out.

You know- people being so criticial is why more people don't post on these boards. These boards give us so much information-who knows what we are losing by nit-picking? Folks please be nicer.
