GayleR Posted February 21, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2006 We are booked for the Stingray/Island tour with Nativeway. Do you need water shoes? I know, silly question, but I tend to plan out everything ahead of time......
Eliot Ness Posted February 21, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 21, 2006 It has been a few years since we did the stingray excursion, but at that time they didn't want you to wear anything on your feet in case you accidentally stepped on a stingray. Apparently it is easy to injure their fragile membrane. We are booked on the Rays, Reef, and Rum Point tour with Nativeway this coming June and look forward to seeing the stingrays again; it really is an awesome experience. You might want water shoes on the Island part of the tour, but I'm not sure exactly what that part of the tour involves. John

canadian cruising couple Posted February 21, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 21, 2006 No water shoes needed. You aren't allowed to wear them at the Stingrays. Not sure about the island tour though, whatever is most comfortable, I guess.
drew sailbum Posted February 22, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2006 Right they are! Tour operators here want to protect the stingrays. We kindly ask that you not wear water shoes or gloves when touching the rays. The rough surfaces could possibly injure the rays.
