Does anyone have experience with the whale watching options out of Reykjavik compared to those out of Akureyi in late June/early July? I have port stops at both with the cruise lines offering excursions each day we are docked there. Just wondering if one location is better than the other and if a certain time of day is better in general. I don't want to book other than a cruise line excursion since I lost money when my original Iceland cruise was cancelled in 2020; the company went bankrupt. Th
June is good time for whale watching in Iceland - best location is possible Húsavík- Akureyri might be better than Reykjavik
Húsavík Is located one hour by car north east of Akureyri. Whale Tour is appropriately 3 hours.
You should be able to book tours and then pay at arrival - an option is North Sailing in Húsavík.
- but look at the other options for excursions you want to join either out of Akureyri or Reykjavik and then make you choice for where to do the whale watching.
