Don't Leave Nassau without.....

For those that have been there or live there what is the must do or must see in Nassau beside Atlantis?

Don't leave without seeing our natural beauty.

White sandy beaches, swaying palms and gin colored waters.

Enjoy the bahamian hospitality, sample some local cuisine.

Snorkel our sea gardens, and enjoy a nice cold Kalik (local beer).

Atlantis wouldn't be high on my list.

I agree with Scubagirrl 100% and out of our group of 39 only 4 people went to Atlantis and found it to be nothing special with a staff not 1/2 as friendly as the folks along Cable Beach. Atlantis is more commercialized and really does not show the culture of the island..... Although I am sure kids would love the Aquariums....

Do enjoy the FOOD (Fish-Fry @ Arawak) and the wonderful Bahamian people. Beautiful beaches and more....

Have a great cruise. I have a book of things to do and see in Nassau, along with maps. Please email me if you would like me to email it to you. ceceliajean1@yahoo.com

We are interested in spending the day at Cable Beach during our short stop on our Carnival Valor cruise in May.

I have been researching online, but would like some first-hand info on the area....

I'd like to go to a beach club and rent a chair and an umbrella, and just be able to spend my entire stay right there. With a restaurant, a bar, and restrooms/changing area, etc......

From what I have been reading, I am not sure a place like that exists on Cable Beach. Are there only hotels/resorts there that you have to be a guest of or buy a day pass from? Or have I just not found the right info that would lead us to a beach club that is not affiliated with a hotel?

Thanks for any insight.......we are very exciting about our stay...we just wish it were for longer!

I've been to Nassau three times in three years. I haven't heard of any beach club type places that you are looking for. Either it's a day pass through a hotel or just going to a public beach (where you wouldn't get the amenitites necessarily that you're looking for).

Scuba girl, what do you think of Arawak Cay, fish fry. is it worth the trip? recommendations? is this really the place locals go?

Depends on the time of day.. Around lunch time and dinner time.. it's all abuzz.. with great food and plenty of locals on lunch break. Weekends included. Weekend evenings, there's entertainment in the courtyard, bands in the bars, and plenty of mingling. Depends on your timing.

It's not very far from the port, so it's not a whole day trip. Just head there for lunch or dinner..

This may not appeal to some, but ...

If I had only a few hours in Nassau around lunchtime I'd head to the Poop Deck east, beg a marina-side table, order cracked conch, peas-n-rice and cole-slaw, my favourite beverage, and top it off with guava duff and a double espresso.

Then I'd head back to my cabin and crash.

Seriously ... there's nothing more relaxing with the most interesting, busy view.

FWIW ...

Can you walk here from the port?

You could ... but it'd be a long hike ... just over a mile, and not always on the sidewalk.

Better to catch a jitney (don't ask me the number ... sorry ... ask around at the terminal downtown, but the same ones that go to Cable Beach should pass by on the other side of the road) or a taxi ... which shouldn't exceed about $10.00

I will be down next week (leaving March 20 on the Celebreation) and am looking for a basic Snorkel trip. I am contemplating the Perl Island Trip that Carnival offers...but do you have any other ideas???

Hi. This may or may not be just for Scubagirrl. Are there any points of interest like very unusual things to see or do in Nassau? My husband and I are in our mid to late twenties and enjoy all types of things even crazy things. We will be there May 15th for 6 or 7 hrs. I have been searching on-line and have not really found anything but ya know how hard it is to find lots of things on-line. Thanks for your time in advance.

Here's a pictorial of Nassau and the area that might be helpful

Also, the majestic tour desk might be of interest for tours packages

There's a pirates museum, small hand's on zoo, Forts and caves as well as aquariums and casinos. You can race an America's cup sailboat, jetski or parasail, Swim with dolphins, pet a stingray or grab a booze cruise. Lots to do..

1) At least walk through the straw market, but be cautious of buying or you will have something made in Taiwan...but it is fun just to see all that is in there.

2) Nassau Royal Rum...not availabe on board.
