Uh, it's more like You don't understand airline economics...

I've worked for over 35 years in the airline industry, most of it in operations and management, and currently do so from the worldwide operations center for one of the five biggest airlines in the world.

Cancellations cost money.

You have to pay another airline to carry your passengers and/or put people up in a hotel.

You have to pay the crew regardless if the flight operates.

You have to pay the people who need to rebook and reticket customers on alternate flights.

The ripple effect of not sending a crew and airplane where it's expected to be can screw up operations for an entire day or longer, costing even more money.

That all adds up pretty quickly, which is why cancellation is a measure of last resort.

It's simply not done to save money

If you go back and read the thread you’ll see we are talking about canceling flights that are not effected by any of the cost you mentioned. But thanks for giving us your company talking points, even if the don’t apply.

Meh, seems like you dont like being called out on your ad hominum...

It doesn't matter if a flight is canceled an hour before departure or six months before departure, almost all of those factors apply.

The only real variable there is whether or not the crew schedules have been awarded or not.  Once awarded, the crew gets paid unless they choose to accept a replacement assignment.

Stripped down to basics, canceling a flight is no different than canceling a cruise.

The only difference is the size of the vehicle and the quantities involved for crew, food, fuel and guests....
