rsmith55 Posted March 1, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2006 If you want to have a good snorkel experience, I recommend that you plan more than just one snorkel trip per cruise. The more the better, for several reasons. The biggest reason is the weather which can get stormy and ruin your day. Even after a storm it takes a day or two for the water to clear up to where the snorkeling is nice. For example I went to my favorite place in Cozumel to snorkel with my heart set on a great day snorkeling at Palancar Reef. But when I got to where I pick up the boat I found that the wind had blown up and it was far too rough to snorkel. I was very disappointed because I knew that the snorkeling was terriffic under the right conditions. So I moved to plan "b" which was to try to find a sheltered cove and snorkel there. Fortunately, I found one. But the moral of the story is that you can't count on any one day for perfect snorkeling. On my recent Destiny cruise where I tried to snorkel at St John, Dominica, Barbados, and Aruba, only two of those spots (Dominica and Aruba) were calm and clear enough. There can be other reasons for a snorkel trip to bomb out such as a hangover from the night before (now that would never happen :>) ) or the guy with the boat doesn't show up. Anyhow, book several trips and if one bombs out, hopefully the others won't.
