will RCCL let you know how many kids are onboard before you book

Recommended Posts

The three worst cruises I have ever had on RCI were directly related to the number of kids aboard and their behavior. They were in the adults only pool area and the staff did nothing, despite so many complaints by adults seeking peace and quiet that a sign was posted at the Pursers Desk saying that they were aware of the problems and were doing their best but that it was up to the parents to supervise their children.

They did not and the ship's staff did not. So, those of us who were seeking sanctuary in the Solarium were basically told "too bad".

Enchantment at spring break, Voyager at the holidays and Grandeur in the summer were enough to turn me off completely.

Carnival Glory, as another posted pointed out, was another horrendous experience.

For those of you whose cruise is enhanced by the presence of children and teens aboard, so be it. But, as an adult who chose ships with adult only areas, I should have expected those spaces to be respected by the parents, the kids and the crew.

I am DP with RCI but have no plans to cruise with them again.

Sorry, but nothing you've posted had to do with the number of kids on board. It had to do with their behavior and the behavior and/or lack of control that might have been shown by their parents. Even on a great big cruise ship, 50 or 100 rowdy, uncontrolled kids would make a much bigger problem than 1000 well behaved ones.

Blame the behavior, don't blame the number.

Exactly, and no matter what anyone says, it is the parents responsibility to ensure that their kids are not being ignorant of the rights of others around them.

As far as having solitude goes though - you really can't expect it to be guaranteed. You are on a cruise ship with thousands of people. There are going to be people who like caviar and Dom, and there will be people who like cheeseburgers and Boone's. You can't expect everyone to clear out of the pool area so you can have the jacuzzi to yourself (as much as we all want to have that). If you want your own Jacuzzi and private pool, you'll have to book through Sandals. :p

If I remember correctly the OP just wanted to know if the lines would disclose this information - OP never explained why he/she wanted it!

As to the burning issue that this post seems to have spawned - number of kids relationship to enjoyment of cruise does not always have a relationship of few kids = few problems. The ONLY time I every expereienced any problems with any kids on board was 15-20 years ago when there were only about 20 kids on board. 19 of the kids were fine - one was a holy terror - and one of the reasons why is that he was the only boy under 12 and thus had NOTHING to do. His parents watched him, but the poor kid was bored to tears - so this was probably a case where more kids would have equated to fewer problems!

I thought the exact same thing!! In fact, I only opened the thread because I was curious why there were 28 responses to a Yes or No question!

We were on the Brilliance in 2003 and a family was put off in Aruba because of their disruptive children (2 boys ages 6 & 8) they were knocking down the elderly tripping the wait staff, breaking the rotating doors breaking the elephants. Their parents were called to the Captains quarters 3 times and would not make their kids behave, so that Captain put them off in Aruba and everyone cheered.

On the Granduer in May there were 7 kids that were smashing fries on the steps, throwing glass plates at passengers, breaking the elevators. Unfortunately that captain didn't do anything about them. There were no parents with the 7 kids, the oldest daughter cursed out Security when he told her to go back to her room. They had to put a curfew on that ship for kids because of these brats. I can see why some ships are not kid friendly. Unfortunately it just takes a few bad to ruin the cruise for everyone.

The Solarium pool and area is adults only. I did not say I wanted solitude, just peace and quiet, as one would find in a such a place. I also pay extra to dine at the specialty restaurants most nights to have a more intimate atmosphere. So, when an area is advertised and has signage saying adults only, it certainly does give me the right to expect just that.

And, yes, I agree that parents should indeed be responsible, but some are not and other passengers should not inherit the problem. The cruise staff needs to step in.

Finally, while it is possible that 100 kids could be worse than 1000, I would definitely take the 100. The odds are far better and the bad eggs more easily identified.

While not my personal favorite, I have stayed at Sandals many times and always book adult only resorts when I go to the islands.

Well, in that case, you're right. :D I'd be pretty peeved too. That goes back to what I was saying about parents being responsible AND being conscious of other people's rights.

I think some people tend to take the 'I'm on vacation and forget everything' idea a little too far - to the point of not being courteous to other people who are trying to enjoy themselves as well.

And then there are the parents who actually BRING their kids into the Solarium because they wish to enjoy some quiet time and get nasty when the adults there complain.

A parents' responsibility to supervise their children comes first, not their own desire to enjoy an area that is off limits to them. Sorry, but this is why I do not cruise RCI anymore. Too many exceptions to the rules that compromise my ability to have a good cruise.

I have also discontinued travelling with RCCL and have 2 cruises booked now in premium suites on the Celebrity Mercury and the Carnival Spirit.

I am so sick of the unchecked and unadmonished monster/poopaloopa/crumbcruncher/toddlewaddler

in every area of the ship they are clearly not supposed to be.ie;..The hotubs/Solarium/Casino etc.

Even the Adult rule breakers. It clearly states on a display screen in the theater NO SAVING SEATS. The pre show attendant even asks over the speaker system NO SAVING SEATS. Yet...there is a man all by himself saving ten seats. I sit down and he insists I cannot sit there ,even though I am 40 minutes early.

end of rant!:(

My wife and I are thinking of spending our 25th anniversary on Sandals resort.Where did you stay and did you have a great time.

I haved stayed at Antigua 2x, Dunns River 9x, Royal 1x, Negril 1x, Ochi and MoBay visited but did not like.

I liked it at 30 but not at 40.

These days it is Grand Lido, Swept Away and LeSport. More subdued, better cuisine, not all 20 somethings and not so in your face activitie wise (Playmakers). Depends what you are looking for.

I will be at Royal Bahamian for a day in 3 weeks so can let you know if you are interested.
