Don't know if this helps or not, but I have 3 girls and they just bring homecoming/prom dresses they already have. Solves the problem. In fact, since I NEVER would have a formal dress for any reason, I just steal one of theirs and wear it too (rotation). Problem solved. You can also go to resale shops and really nice inexpensive dresses and use the excuse of saving money to spend on ship or on shore! Short dressy cocktail dresses are ok just like the long formal gowns. Have fun!
