Rare jam19872016 Posted October 14, 2022 Author #651 Share Posted October 14, 2022 Speaking of Dr. Suess, the parade is getting ready to start. It's nice to see the activities come back that we're casualties of covid even ones I don't participate in 😆.
Rare jam19872016 Posted October 14, 2022 Author #652 Share Posted October 14, 2022 Another wonderful change this morning, I can see the happy smiling faces of the crew. It warms my heart to see crew given the choice to mask or not. Thank you Carnival!
Rare jam19872016 Posted October 14, 2022 Author #653 Share Posted October 14, 2022 Spent an hour at the gym then went to brunch. Service was very slow this morning. It took 25 minutes for my drink order, and then it was wrong. Pepsi instead of a diet Pepsi, thankfully the replacement came quick. The food was all very good at least. Cheese grits. Crab and avacado sandwich after I picked off the greenery. Seven layer cake.
Rare jam19872016 Posted October 14, 2022 Author #654 Share Posted October 14, 2022 Panama Canal: I wish that the internet had been more cooperative earlier in the cruise so this could have been closer to live. Internet has been great since the last time it went down completely, but I still was not able to be quite as live as I had hoped to be. Lets rewind back to my day crossing the Panama Canal. I was up pretty early this morning so that I could be awake for the entire transit of the canal. The pilot was due onboard at 5:30 so by 5:20 I was at the front of deck 9. So were A LOT of other people. Panama City skyline. Lots of other ships also waiting to enter the canal.
Rare jam19872016 Posted October 14, 2022 Author #655 Share Posted October 14, 2022 Sunrise was a challenge from my vantage point and I did not want to give up my spot because I knew I would not get it back. If I crop out the tops of their heads this might be an ok picture. Sun is up now in Panama City. With the sun out, we were now treated to a rainbow. Hard to see in photos but was beautiful in person. Sailing towards the Miraflores Locks. Approaching the Bridge of the Americas.

Rare jam19872016 Posted October 14, 2022 Author #658 Share Posted October 14, 2022 It was way too crowded up front at this point so I gave up my spot and took the advice from the seminar, don't be stationary. Keep moving all around the ship so you can see it all. It was far less crowded in the middle than in the front and the back and you could move port to starboard without worrying about losing your spot. Continuing towards Miraflores. Another rainbow if you look closely. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe this was the former American military base.

Rare jam19872016 Posted October 14, 2022 Author #661 Share Posted October 14, 2022 More. Workers (and maybe tourists?) cheering us on from this building. The locomotive guiding us through. Almost there. Looking back at our transit so far.

Rare jam19872016 Posted October 14, 2022 Author #663 Share Posted October 14, 2022 More. At this point we took a break for breakfast. It was almost 9AM and it would be closing. While enjoying a nice breakfast we entered the Pedro Miguel Locks. I had a table near the back of the dining room which is where I took these photos from.

It was starting to get hot out so I went to my cabin for the next set of photos. These were from my window on deck 1. The local prison.

Rare jam19872016 Posted October 14, 2022 Author #670 Share Posted October 14, 2022 We took a lunch break at this point and the returned to the room just as we were entering the Gatun Locks. The perspective of going through the locks from deck 1 was pretty cool to experience. The photos are a little less cool, a lot of pictures of concrete walls lol. Rare jam19872016 Posted October 14, 2022 Author #671 Share Posted October 14, 2022 Continued. A different perspective of how close we are to the walls. My towel friends like the view too. Looking on the TV at what's ahead of us. Very close to the walls for an up-close inspection.
Rare jam19872016 Posted October 14, 2022 Author #672 Share Posted October 14, 2022 A couple of these pictures were taken from Deck 3 on the outside promenade deck and from the windows inside the jungle but because of the changing water levels, I can't really tell which ones from the perspective of the photos. Continuing down the Gatun Locks. We have now exited the locks. Looking back at where we came. The French's failed attempt at creating the Panama Canal.

Rare jam19872016 Posted October 14, 2022 Author #675 Share Posted October 14, 2022 We've now made it past the bridge and are approaching the official start of the Atlantic Ocean. Other side of these rocks is considered the Atlantic. Here we go. Looking back into the Pacific side.
