DELFIN Posted March 3, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2006 Should I worry about location when choosing a B&B for an overnight? We want to walk around town.... If we stay closer to the Castle, are we still within walking distance of the train station? Your help is greatly appreciated. Susana
Rare English Tim Posted March 6, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 6, 2006 The castle is high up on the outskirts of the town, a long walk from the port and railway station, which are close together. It would be much easier to stay within the town boundaries. I'd suggest the seafront and ask for a sea view.
DELFIN Posted March 6, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted March 6, 2006 Thank you Botham, I had booked a B&B right down the hill from the Castle on Castle Road and was having second thoughts since we really want to be in town. Guess it's time to change! Susana
Kindlychap Posted April 3, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2006 I think the obvious answer to the question asked is "too big". Don't expect too much from Dover. The best thing they offer is the chance to leave!
DELFIN Posted April 3, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted April 3, 2006 Heavens Kindlychap! I will definitely want to be near the train station now should I need to make a quick getaway for the day. Seriously thanks for the heartfelt reply.... unfortunately history buffs (such as my 16 year old newphew) want to go see that Castle:cool: Susana
Kindlychap Posted April 3, 2006 #6 Share Posted April 3, 2006 I understand the castle is a safe distance from the town! Hope your experience proves there is another view to mine!
shoshona2 Posted April 28, 2006 #7 Share Posted April 28, 2006 We thoroughly enjoyed touring the tunnels under Dover Castle. They were used during WWII and have an interesting history. The tour is done with sound effects and takes about an hour. Go to Fodors.com or Frommers.com and you can read all about it.
heatherb1958 Posted April 29, 2006 #8 Share Posted April 29, 2006 A couple of years ago we had the opportunity to wander around town while waiting for our ferry to france. The impression we got was that we would not like to wander around at night. Sorry Dover!! Boo's Mom Posted May 19, 2006 #9 Share Posted May 19, 2006 So, the castle cannot be walked to? What is the recommended mode of transportation to get to the castle? Are there cabs just a phone call away> thanks.
Nickwolf Posted May 19, 2006 #10 Share Posted May 19, 2006 You will have no problem getting a cab. I'm sure your hotel will have a firm they recommend. The castle is excellent to visit, be sure to visit some of the other areas of the castle and not just the tunnels. Nick.
