what airport for rhapsody

Recommended Posts

You may get a better response from other people who live in the area, but if you can fly into Houston Hobby, you will be closer to Galveston. It is located south of Downtown Houston. There are Shuttle services, but Im not sure of the names sorry.

Hobby is the closest - around 45 minutes away with no traffic. IAH is farther away - around 1-1/2 to 2 hours - but has more choices of airlines. Southwest and Airtran fly into Hobby. IAH is Continental's main hub. Galveston Limo is a good shuttle service although I used a private limo service. If you are booking your own flights, if your ship leaves at 5 book a flight coming in no later than 1pm for Hobby, noon for IAH. Going home, No earlier than 1pm for Hobby, 2pm for IAH. You may make it earlier, but if there are any delays you will regret it as the airports are very far from the pier.

If you can fly out of West Islip, NY, you can fly Southwest Airlines to Houston Hobby. I am not sure what other airlines offer service from your area to Hobby Airport. I strongly recommend Hobby for your trip to Galveston, it is closer and a much more "friendly" drive.

At either Hobby or IAH airport, you can rent a car or minivan from Enterprise Rent-a-Car. You can drop the car at their Galveston location without a drop-off fee. On your return, you can pick up a one-way (reserved) rental at a kiosk just outside the port building. If you are going to Galveston the day before your cruise, it is really nice to have wheels to get around. We rented a mini-van which was large enough for our party of four and all of our luggage. The cost from Hobby to Galveston was about $60. The cost for the return was about $120, due to the extra fees charged by the port to have their kiosk on location.

You will love the Rhapsody.
