Studio Upgrade Bid?

Hi Guys,

I have 110 days remaining until my cruise. I am currently in a Solo room on the Encore. I got a email saying I could bid to upgrade my room . It was $70 for the lowest bid for a balcony room, not sure if its worth it $70 or $140cad. Now do I have to pay for two people since the upgrade is based on per person? Also, if the bid is accepted do I have a chance to say no? 2 of my other friends are on the same deck as me (10) . So, Ideally I would like to stay on the same deck.

  • djsamphard changed the title to Studio Upgrade Bid?

As I understood when I placed my bid, as soon as it is accepted it is charged to your credit card, so you cannot decline the upgade once its approved.  Thats the downside of the upgrade bid.  You may get a better cabin but it could be anywhere on the ship.  Also I believe you would pay double for upgrade from solo to balcony.,  So if you bid 70.00, you would be charged 140.00.  Hope you get the room that you'll love!

This last June I was booked into Studio cabin on the Encore. I bided on a balcony for $100x 2. It was Alaska, and I really enjoyed the Balcony a lot!  It was really nice looking at Glacier Bay while sitting on just a few steps away.,

I went to the Observation Deck to listen to the speakers and buy some pictures. I was hoping to look out the huge windows that are situated there, but of course I was thwarted by people who stand in front of the windows maybe 1 foot from them blocking the view for everyone.  Thank goodness for the Balcony.

Go for it!

If you can get a balcony for not much more than a studio I would always take a shot. Balcony's are almost always way more expensive when booking, especially for a solo. I did that last year on my transatlantic and got a balcony for 15 nights for a couple hundred dollars.

Last month, my upgrade bid on the Encore was accepted. I went from Solo cabin to Aft Balcony. Bid 90 USD so it cost my $180.00   It was a nice cabin but honestly, I used the balcony very little. The Waterfront on the Encore is wonderful. I wasn't all that impressed with the Observation Lounge. It was warm and crowded. I got so much fresh air out on the waterfront and there was always somewhere to sit if I wanted to.
