Question: How much do you get done at work, the week before a cruise??

Hey everyone! It's Monday morning, 8 AM, and I'm sitting in my cubicle going crazy. I leave on the Destiny on Sunday. How much work do YOU get done the week before a cruise? Has anyone been reprimanded by the boss for slacking the week before vacation?

Would you really want to come back from vacation and face TWO weeks of backlog? I'm thinking you should be working overtime this week to catch up and get ahead.

Actually, I work in a "group" environment, so if I don't get much done, one of my co-workers will be picking up the slack. No one will probably be talking to me when I get back from vacation! It's just so hard to concentrate!!

 

Tef: Where is "near Detroit?" You're probably submerged under water today, aren't you? I saw on Fox 2 this morning that the water is having a hard time draining off.....

I get a lot of surfing done on cruise critic. This is my priority this week! LOL

 

But my work is always caught up. When it comes to my work, I suffer from OCD and do not like work being backed up. My desk will be cleared before I leave and cleared again within two days after I return. But, I still find time to check in with cruise critic.

Kathy: I have been doing a lot of research on cruise critic too. I have been copying and pasting useful tips/info (like when to see cool sunsets on the "secret" deck on the Destiny) into a Word document. It'll probably be 30 pages by the trip! Oh well, it'll make for good reading during the flight to San Juan!

IMCruisin04.. we sail on the same ship... I am finding it very hard to concentrate!! Had problems with it last week too. We have major changes that have to take place this week in the set up of our store so I will try very hard to concentrate.... but I don't think it will work!! LOL Also the kids hae finals this week. they have a double whammy... last day of school is the day we fly. Poor things LOL

 

We are flying down on Friday.... can't wait!!!

Ashkins: Your poor kids!! That is what happened on my last cruise--I took a final exam in college on Thursday afternoon, then flew out at 6 AM the next day. I was mentally exhausted!!

 

You are flying out Friday? You are SO LUCKY! We're not leaving until 9 AM Sunday. We have a direct flight from Detroit, and I think we'll land in San Juan around 1:30. We hope to check in, then get off the boat to check out San Juan for little bit before dinner.

uhhh I remember last year it was my first cruise and I was BEYOND excited. I remember that last week dragging by and yet so much to do still had it flying by. I work in a group environment so I had to "sneak" on here every chance I could as I am a hard core addict to this site LOL!

But I am lucky that while I am gone someone else can kind of cover for me and there is no work really when I come back. Now saying this...I have put in for another position here at work and that WILL not be the case if I get it...come October when I go on the S&S Bayou cruise...I may be in BIG trouble when I get back! LOL

I am taking a week off precruise, and will be gone for 8 days total! I can't wait. 3 days in Tampa and 5 on the Sensation!!

 

I clean my entire house top to bottom, nothing is worse than coming home to a dirty house. I make all last minute shopping count,reverify with babysitters all info in regard to my kids. Make sure housekeeper has all info for security system.Give all family members itinerary in case of emergency.I am usually tired by the time I actually hit the interstate. Of course, DH drives the entire trip, but he should because he didn't help me pack or get anything ready.Hehee

cruisinonmymind - I plan on cleaning our house top to bottom this week, too. After being pampered for a week, I don't want to come home to do laundry AND to clean the house. Have a great time on the Sensation! That's the last cruise I was on!

The week before a cruise seems to creep along so slowly but... I'm self employed. As it is there is a drop in my income after I cruise because when I'm not in the office producing there isn't any money coming in. I have to be "the boss" and reprimand myself for slacking.

I really try to keep focused up till the last day before I leave. I work until noon, wrap everything up and head out the door. I put a message on my phone referring customers to an associate.

There are few things in life that compare to the "I'm finally on vacation" feeling I get from walking out the door.

Pirate - I loved your thoughts about the feeling before leaving for vacation. It is so true! I can almost feel my pulse rate lowering as soon as I board the plane to head South.

Only 1 Week!!! We have 2 months until Carnival Pride and 3 months until Celebrity and I am in here every day - printing and adding to my cruise book. I don't know what would happen if I had to work too!!

Tef, after the tornado hit in Mountrose last night, (just north west of Flint) The nuts had the water skies out in the streets. I have 2 feet of water in front of the house across the driveway. About 1 1/2 feet more than we've had in the 27 years I've lived here.

IMCruisin - I can't remember much about the last week at work before my past cruises, except that people were annoyed by my constant ear-to-ear grin, fuzzy focus on reality, and absolute inability to get ruffled by anything.

Work - who can think about work? Actually I've been very busy already this week (leave on Sunday). Not only am I working but I have a final this week and then I start a new class the week I'm gone (MY LAST ONE !!!!) - which I will have to catch up with when I return. I'm working over each night this week just so I don't have to come back to a big mess. I haven't even started packing.

 

It really gives you something to look forward to knowing it is right around the corner.

This is the week befor my cruise, and with my job, I basically HAVE to work! Luckily, today is the last day of school! So, I have two workdays and then I am done! My classroom was cleaned majorly by the kids, so I don't have a lot left to do, but think about the cruise! This week sure seems to be flying by for me! Yea!

(COMPUTER GEEK ALERT!) Just a tip for those of you surfing the Internet at work, most likely your employer is tracking it. I do network security consulting and most every company of any size is tracking how much time everyone is spending online. They can track where you went, how long you spent and possibly even what you typed. This probably isn't a surprise to most folks but I'd hate for anyone to get their day ruined because of it.
