Wuzzle10 Posted December 3, 2022 #1 Share Posted December 3, 2022 We are boarding in Sydney on this day, just realised it’s Australia Day, hope we get an amazing view of the fireworks and the regatta that’s on the 26th, should hopefully be a great start to the cruise
Rare lprp Posted December 3, 2022 #2 Share Posted December 3, 2022 I don’t think you will be boarding until 29 December - that’s when Explorer is due to arrive in Sydney?

Jlhalldc Posted December 3, 2022 #6 Share Posted December 3, 2022 We're also boarding Explorer on Jan. 26. An Aussie friend reminded me it was Australia day and the harbor area will be alive with celebratory events. Hope we see fireworks from the ship! We are lucky to be staying aboard for the Grand Asia Exploration, which ends in Tokyo on March 28. See you soon!
jessandarnie Posted December 9, 2022 #7 Share Posted December 9, 2022 Australia Day fireworks are held after dark, usually around 9 pm or thereabouts. Sydney harbour is cleared of boating around the Bridge as this is used extensively for the fireworks displays. Circular Quay where ships use is next to the bridge, so depending on where you are in port and what time you depart you may or not be in luck. Sydney harbour fills up with boats of all descriptions and I imagine any ships that are departing would do so as early as possible to have a clear passage out. Hopefully you be fortunate to stay right in Circular Quay and if so it will be an amazing spectacle. So check with Regent as to where you will be. irishwitchy Posted December 9, 2022 #8 Share Posted December 9, 2022 We will be in White bay 4 until 11:00pm. So will we see the fireworks?
jessandarnie Posted December 10, 2022 #9 Share Posted December 10, 2022 Yes you will to a certain degree. Google maps will show you the layout of Sydney Harbour in relation to White Bay and Sydney Harbour Bridge. The fireworks are massive and can be seen from afar. Enjoy 👌👌

Any thoughts about that? If you can get a ferry to Watson’s Bay, highly recommend getting off for lunch at Doyle’s which is right on the beach looking all the way back to the bridge. Fun trip and we enjoyed the food as well. Restaurant is right next to the ferry pier.
jessandarnie Posted December 11, 2022 #13 Share Posted December 11, 2022 The ferry system around Sydney harbour is used for commuting but, it is seriously the best way to tour the harbour waters. So many places to get to, get off wander around, stop for lunch, get back on. Key places are Watsons Bay as described above. in the other direction is Manly, the Ferry is famous…for its beach, a walk from ferry thru The Mall to this iconic beach is the best day out. So many choices to eat along the way and also trendy cafes etc along the beachfront. All for the cost of a ferry ticket. Another stop to do is the ferry to Taronga Zoo, it has amazing views the animals are extremely well valued, plus they have views to do for. A Harbour cruise with lunch would be a good introduction to what goes on around the Harbour. https://transportnsw.info/travel-info/ways-to-get-around/ferry#/

Lonedaddy Posted December 11, 2022 #15 Share Posted December 11, 2022 Who is the cruise director on Explorer and will they be on for the cruise referenced here? On Australian cruises do they ever do tributes to say Bee Gees, or doubt it, but AC/DC?
