Cruise Credit Question

I had the fortune of receiving an email about a Cruise Credit that we apparently forgot about being extended until June 30, 2023. I called and the MSC rep said that we had to both book and sail by this date. Is that accurate in anyone else's experience? Would we lose the entire amount after this date?
