Leigh1971 Posted March 8, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 8, 2006 My DH and I sailed on Rhapsody last week and RCI used this ship to test out Texas Hold'Em. They had a beginners tournament (with like 45 mins of instruction first) and I think the buy-in was $40 and they paid out I think the top 10 places. Then later in the week they had a ladies-only tourney and it was the same type of thing and the winner I think also won cash and spa treatments. And then on the last day they had another tourney and the buy-in was $60 and they paid I think the top 9 places. The first place won $525, there were 43 entrants and my DH got 7th place, paying $85. But they had tables going at night and they were very popular. They were just testing it to see how it might work. They took pictures and video of some of it too. The company that did it is going to put together a presentation to RCI and if RCI accepts it, it would be probably 6 months before it is on all RCI ships. If you are interested in seeing it on all RCI ships, please call, email or write RCI and tell them that you would like to see this on their ships. Now I don't know where they would put it on the ships on a permanent basis, but for last week it was great. They had used part of the conference center. There were 4 poker tables and it was non-smoking. I can't imagine that being in the casino, it would be way too noisy in there for TH'E (IMHO), and even the company putting it on didn't want it in the casino, but it would be up to RCI to make that decision in the end. But I told the company putting it on about this website and how we would let RCI know how we like TH'E and that we would do what we can. So if you want it, let RCI know!!!! Troy4444 Posted March 8, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 8, 2006 What ports did you go to and was there a piano bar / singalong bar? Was the cruise director good? Troy
MrsJennifer Posted March 8, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 8, 2006 What a cool thing for the Rhapsody to do! I am going in May, and I wish they would have it then, too! Thanks for sharing your experience, and congrats to your DH for his winnings!
TEXASMUNK Posted March 8, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 8, 2006 Grand Princess, out of Galveston, has several hold em talbes in the casino. Games were $3-$6, and several tournaments...$40 buy in. Only problem, when you play in a casino, you win or lose against the house. In hold em, you take a fellow passenger's money. I got lucky the first few days and took a few hundred bucks off several folks....They had nothing but dirty looks for me the rest of the cruise. When you sit at a poker table, if, after two hands you do not know who the ded money is......it is you! They did not know what dead money was. Leigh1971 Posted March 9, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted March 9, 2006 We went to Key West, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Really couldn't tell you about piano bar/sing-alongs onboard (not our kind of thing). We got a great price $971 incl grats for 2 ppl. We thought we did pretty well with that price!!
