Start by looking at the deck plans of the ship and clicking on Cruise Reviews for the Elation (on the right). All ships have an abundance of activities and you will be informed daily ('Capers') so you can pre-plan what-not-to-miss.
Of course, checking out this site regularly will answer a whole bunch of questions you didn't know you had!

Welcome to the boards! Just look around for various topics. You'll get most of your questions answered. There is a thread just for people who have cruised or are cruising the Elation.It is usually in the first page or two of the message boards. Carnival's website is a good start too.
There is a whole thread just for us Texans with some great information. It is called Texas Cruisers. You'll meet some nice folks there who may even be going on the same trip with you. There are no dumb questions (ok there are a few but don't worry, we've all asked them)

You'll love the Elation. She was our first cruise ship experience and we were hooked!

When in December are you sailing? We are on the Dec. 12 cruise. This will be our fifth cruise and second on the Elation. We are taking our son and his girlfriend and our next door neighbors are going, too. You will love the Elation.
