Restaurants in Kirkwall or Portree

We'll be in Kirkwall and Skye at the end of May and I was wondering if anybody could recommend some good places to eat there, or in the surrounding areas.  And if you were there recently did you have any problems getting seated without reservation?

For Skye, we were in Portree on a land trip a few years ago and the B&B owner - when we said that we hadn't booked somewhere to eat - told us that we didn't stand a chance because everything was booked online weeks in advance. We had a takeaway from the local fish & chip shop!

 

That was in the evening.  You're likely to have better luck at lunchtime.
