NCL messaging and calling through the app

Does anyone have any experience using the NCL app to message and call other traveling companions on board?  I understand it costs $10 per phone, but that it is easy to use.  Can you share information on how to get it set up, etc? Opinions?  Thanks

The app is easy to use for messaging...you set up your contacts by putting in their name and their code which you get when you activate the app. You can then can message them either singularly or as a group. The only issue is that it does not notify you if you have a message (ie no sound alert or banner). You have to keep checking for messages. I have not called friends on the cruise but have used the app to call home...it is $0.79c per minute to NA.
