ewong Posted May 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2004 Many have said that walking in Venice without an itinerary/plan (and get lost) is the best way to see the city. We would, however, like to have a walking plan for the limited time we have in Venice. Could someone suggest a walking itinerary that we can do on our own in 3 hours? Dushi Posted May 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 16, 2004 First thing you should do is buy a good map. By that, I mean one that shows all the walkways and canals. The inferior maps lead you into streets that end into canals and then you'll have to back track. We spent 6 days/5 nights in Venezia and explored everywhere. 3 hours is not much time. We started with the plastic-coated "Streetwise Venice" map and the Eyewitness Venice guide. The Guide gives maps on suggested walking tours of each sestieri or district. Every tour starts at Piazza San Marco in the sestieri of San Marco and somehow winds its way towards the Rialto bridge. Just look up at the buildings on the street corners, there are usually signs pointing towards the Rialto, piazza San Marco or the ferrovia (train station). aaahhhhh venice.....
