attitudeda Posted March 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2006 We are thinking of doing a Hawaii cruise in 2007. We would like to sail with RCI. The problem is we really don't want to pull are 12 year old daughter out of school so we would really like to sail when she is off from school. When does RCI do sailings to Hawai. superjerryw Posted March 14, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2006 The summer RCI schedule for 2007 is not out yet. However, RCI currently has Hawaii sailings only when school is in session, mostly May, September and October. The use the same ships that they use for Alaska in the summertime. When the Alaska season is over in mid-September the same ships do some Hawaii cruises. You should also note that most of these Hawaii sailings are 14 day round trips from San Diego where the majority of your time is spent at sea with not that much time spent in Hawaii. If you really want to see Hawaii I would suggest you take your daughter on a land based vacation during the summer when school is out.
attitudeda Posted March 14, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted March 14, 2006 Thanks, I noticed that when looking at the 2006 sailing that on a 14 day cruise there are 7 days spent at sea.
superjerryw Posted March 14, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 14, 2006 You should also keep in mind that the Hawaiian Islands are nothing like the islands in the Caribbean. When sailing in the Caribbean having only one day on a particular island can be more than enough to hit the highlights. When you visit Hawaii you can easily spend several days on each island and still not have enough time just to visit the highlights. A land based trip to Hawaii will be far more rewarding than a cruise.
FunCruiser56 Posted March 14, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 14, 2006 We have been looking at these cruises also, and with the same problem taking a child out of school for 2 weeks....now I think that travel is an education in itself but 2 weeks is a bit too much. We have started looking at Princess and Celebrity, they have more cruises available one being at the end of October when our son has a week off already. Their prices are not as good as RCI though...... Funcruiser
