I know that this question has been on the boards but have not been able to find it. If anyone could help me I really would appreciate it.

The question is "Can you get cash from your Credit Card while on board the ship"

Am bringing cash with me but just in case more is needed can this be done?

Yes but - There is an ATM all normal cash advance charges apply. Debit card might be the better choice. $5.50 ATM fee.

A better alternative is to get cash in the casino - you can charge it to your onboard account and it is treated as a normal charge. No cash advance charges or imediate interest.

X2. The best route to take if you find yourself needing cash while on the ship. Just have to plan to be able to hit up the casino while it is open. Go to the cashier window and ask for an advance against your account. Probably quicker and less of a hassle too then an ATM.

I would recommend Travelers checks. Why worry about getting cash, paying a ridiculous ATM fee, cash advance fee, etc.... Plus they don't expire.

You can cash them in the casino or at the pursers desk.

Trust me after being stuck in NYC during the blackout w/ the ATMs out of commission having a travelers check tucked in my wallet was a life saver.

Anyway just a suggestion.

HAVE FUN!

But, if you have an NCL mastercard account from MBNA, you can earn points (equals dollars) for future cruises on NCL......Use that for CC cash at the casino.:)

And you get the bonus since it is consdered NCL spend:) Getting 4% extra on a cash advance is a wonderful thing.

I took almost no cash on my last cruise except 1 and 5 dollar bills for tips. First night charged my gambling and spending money to my account. I got that money on the 13th of Feb and will not have to pay that bill until the 16th of April.

My only fear is that if TOO many people use the casino for getting cash WITHOUT ever risking any of it in the casino, then at some point the bean-counters in NCL corporate will figure out that they need to tack on a surcharge (a la Princess).

agreed - they got all my money in play:eek: I ended up taking a second advance but pulled it out in the end and came home with as much cash as the total put on my account. :)

I understand being a Credit Card points junkie (I'm 1) but does everyone understand what your NCL Credit Card is charging you for the cash advance.

Transaction fee for cash advances is 3% + the APR is 7.9% or 13.99%.

Plus there is also a foreign transaction fee of 3% but not sure if a cruise ship is considered outside the United States.

The above probably holds true for any credit card.

Just hate to see someone throw away hard earned money when it can spent on a cold beer and a couple of rolls at the craps table.

Not true - that is the beauty of NCL it is treated as part of your total onboard account.

You can if you want request a cash advance on another card in the casino and ail the above would apply.
