Hawaii697 Posted June 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2004 I'm planning a meet & greet for my group when we sail next year. I plan to have lots of goodies for the group and some items may not fit in our carry on and may need to be packed in a box(es). Does anyone know if there will be a problem with getting a box(es) through security? Thanks for your help with this question.
Cruisin' Southern Caribbean August 2005
Granny037 Posted June 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2004 Hawaii697 I'm a group leader for a family cruise of about 38 of us. I'm looking for ideals to make this a memorable cruise for everyone with some special little touches. Maybe we can share ideals? what sort of gifts are you planning to give? Thanks in advance. Till the days of Glory!!!!!!!!!!!!
Snowball Posted June 11, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 11, 2004 As long as the box(es) don't contain anything that you are not allowed to bring onboard the ship (liquor , weapons , etc. ) I don't see any reason why it would be a problem to bring it with you. Just make sure that the box is small enough to fit through the scanners - otherwise you'll have to hand it over to the porters and have it delivered to your cabin. A couple of ideas for you. I'm planning to purchase T-shirts for the entire group to wear when we board. I'm also planning to do a raffle and some trivia for cash and prizes. One last thing, while I'm setting up the room for our meet and greet, I plan to tape an envelope under one of the chairs. It will have an AMEX gift card in it. Since I'll have than 50+ people in my group, I'll be using the monies for the 3 free berths towards the gifts and T-shirts. Hope this helps. By the way, I like your scavenger hunt idea. Smooth sailin' and happy planning.
Cruisin' Southern Caribbean August 2005
Cruizinagn Posted June 12, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2004 Be prepared for security to open your boxes. Might want to bring some extra packing tape.
PammyHound Posted June 12, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2004 I am the group leader of the Royal Hounds, formally known as the Glory Hounds. We have about 180+ people sailing this fall and have lots of fun things planned. A couple of things that our group has done that has been fun is a door decorating contest and a state gift exchange. Since our group comes from so many different states, each person that wants to participate brings a wrapped gift ($5 limit) that represents their state. Who ever brings a gift can take a gift. It's tons of fun to see what people bring! If you want your group to have custom tshirts, consider using www.cafepress.com They can put your design on shirts and people can order their own! imsulin Posted June 12, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 12, 2004 What fun, Hawaii 697! Are the T-shirts going to have a group logo/cruise info. on them? Here's a suggestion about the pre-paid AMEX card, though. AMEX may be different, but I got a pre-paid VISA card from DD for my birthday for $100.00. I tried to use it at Sears (of all places), and it was a nightmare trying to get it accepted! Took about two hours! First, the recipient has to call to activate it, and I don't know how difficult that would be on a ship. You might want to consider giving a pre-paid shipboard credit instead. Just a suggestion, and hope you have a great cruise!!
imsulin Posted June 12, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 12, 2004 GREAT idea for the state gift exchange, PammyHound! Wish I could go! Alas, DD's August wedding is draining my funds faster than the gas prices are going up! Very serious about booking the Mariner in Oct. 2005 with Host Miriam, though. (Sorry - wrong board !) Hawaii697 Posted June 12, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted June 12, 2004 Thank you all for your great suggestions. Will make sure gift card is activiate before sailing. I love Granny037 idea of a scavenger hunt. Might try it during out day at sea. Hawaii697 Posted June 12, 2004 Author #10 Share Posted June 12, 2004 One other thing. On my last group cruise, one of the prizes I had was a floating lounger (from Target, K-Mart, etc) which was a great hit.
Cruisin' Southern Caribbean August 2005
PammyHound Posted June 12, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 12, 2004 Which ever cruise you choose, I'm sure it will be a great time! If October 2005 doesn't work, you may want to consider the Royal Hounds 9/17/2005 group cruise on the new Caribbean Princess! Our rates are amazing and during the week of June 21-25, you can book for only $100 down per person and select the cabin you want, not a guarentee like our groups have done in the past with $25pp deposits! Everybody is welcome to join us! kajsb Posted June 12, 2004 #12 Share Posted June 12, 2004 PammyHound, you are torturing me with the talk of the future hound cruises. One day I hope to join the group. I just have to find the $$ somewhere. Two cruises in one month plus the threat of a 7% pay cut by Governor Schwarzennegger does put a crimp in the budget. imsulin Posted June 12, 2004 #14 Share Posted June 12, 2004 Hmmmm - really gonna check this one out! Haven't been on Princess for awhile, and like the Eastern itinerary, which the Mariner is also doing. Pammyhound - any idea what a Cat. JJ would cost for a single? I know what the Mariner price is...just want to compare. I'll try to call Kevin on Monday. Do you know if a single PAX just has to put down $100.00? Thanks, PammyHound...I ask this because I still have to finish paying for DD's wedding in early August, and $$$ is more than tight!!

kajsb Posted June 13, 2004 #19 Share Posted June 13, 2004 Well PammyHound, I can see you didn't read the ending of my review. It has to do what what happened with the medicines towards the end of the cruise and is why I referred to myself as the occassional dumb blonde. imsulin Posted June 13, 2004 #20 Share Posted June 13, 2004 PammyHound - thanks SO much for the information!! Price sounds great, and the deposit amount even better! I really appreciate your taking the time out to give me the info. I'll call Kevin tomorrow and sign up! Oops - June 21 - 25?? I'll ask him when I talk to him. Thanks so much again - decided to do Princess instead of the Mariner, as Princess Cays sounds better to me than Nassau!

PammyHound Posted June 13, 2004 #22 Share Posted June 13, 2004 imsulin, that is such great news! I'm thrilled you are going to join us! Just a side note since you're cruising single, we often times have other CC members that would like to go but don't want to pay the single rates. If you'd like, we could try and hook you up with another single in the group. Some people would not be comfortable doing this and that's understandable but it has worked out well on numerous occaisions in the past. Just thought I'd let you know! imsulin Posted June 13, 2004 #23 Share Posted June 13, 2004 Thanks, Pammy - I'll keep that in mind, but I may be too much of an old fogey to share Hey - I just noticed you're from the same place as Jack Dawson!! PammyHound Posted June 13, 2004 #24 Share Posted June 13, 2004 LOL! I have never had anybody point out that I was from the same place as Jack Dawson! But I'll let you in on a little known fact. Jack claimed be from the Lake Wissota area. My parents currently live on Lake Wissota but that's not the little known fact. The fact is that Lake Wissota is a man made lake. It was a joint venture between Northern States Power of Wisconsin and Minnesota...hence the name Wissota. Unfortunately who ever was in charge of research for Titantic did not take into account that Lake Wissota did not exist at the time Titanic sailed! Just a little movie snaffoo and I'm sure not many people even know about! Anyway, I had not heard anything about the reference to it prior to seeing the movie so it was pretty cool, the whole theater cheered! imsulin Posted June 13, 2004 #25 Share Posted June 13, 2004 I heard about that Lake Wissota thing on one of the Titanic boards. Bad goof on James Cameron's part! It was one of about a kazillion historical errors made in that movie, but still a great flick! Ya, sure, you betcha....Sven, Arne, and I are heading out for brats. Skol!
