Mom4Nana2 Posted June 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2004 Does anyone know when hurricane season is in the Eastern Carribean? I've waited 58 years for my first cruise. I don't want to get blown away or have cruise canceled because of a hurricane! Mom4Nana2 Ready for a cruise!!!

Snowball Posted June 11, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 11, 2004 I believe that hurricane season officially falls from June 1 through November 30, but most of the hurricane activity occurs from August to October. pungo3 Posted June 11, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 11, 2004 I believe October is a fairly safe choice. My DH & I are going to cruise in October. Having lived in Florida our entire lives, we have rarely seen hurricanes in October so we think it's worth the chance. Prices are good in October so I'd say go for it. I wish you a wonderful cruise and great weather! serene56 Posted June 11, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 11, 2004 I dont think your cruise will be cancelled because of a hurricane. The ship will be re-routes somewhere else in case of one. If you can go with the flow and not be upset if plans change suddenly you can get some really nice prices for Sept/Oct cruises. I am sure this will not be your first cruise Going NOWHERE Miracle, February 13, 2005 Legend, October 22,2004 Voyager August 31,2003 Victory September 22,2002 Regal Empress,June 2001 Sensation,August 2000
DonnaD Posted June 11, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 11, 2004 How about odds for July? Wish I had not just gone to see The Day After Tommorrow. Got me thinking about storms. . . Donna
imsulin Posted June 11, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 11, 2004 October has a higher activity for hurricanes and tropical storms, but you can get great weather or lousy weather any time of the year. The only time a cruise would be cancelled due to a hurricane is if the ship were unable to leave its US home port due to the weather.

imsulin Posted June 12, 2004 #10 Share Posted June 12, 2004 Hurricane Claudette hit the Western Caribbean last July, and caused some ports to be missed. Just an FYI.
PammyHound Posted June 12, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 12, 2004 Hurricane Schmurricane! We cruised out of Port Canaveral last September right in front of Hurricane Isabel. All the Eastern itineraries switched to Western that week and it was the calmest seas I've ever sailed. Bring it on! Beffy1167 Posted June 12, 2004 #13 Share Posted June 12, 2004 As a Floridian, I can affirm the info that hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30th....but will also point out the fact that hurricanes can (and often DO) occur in October, regardless of what the previous poster said. In fact, in October 1998, as I boarded the Tropicale for my first cruse, Hurricane Mitch was sitting on top of Cozumel, Mexico--which was scheduled to be one of our ports of call. No matter--when that happens, Carnival doesn't cancel cruises, they simply change itineraries. We ended up going from Key West to Nassau instead of Key West to Cozumel. And the weather was perfect! I say take advantage of the "off-season" rates and book in October--but be aware that the ports of call may be changed in the event of a hurricane! And happy cruising! PammyHound Posted June 12, 2004 #14 Share Posted June 12, 2004 Pammy here! We left 9/13....man I didn't know we sailed "together"! I must have just missed you! LOL One thing is for sure, the ship will avoid a hurricane at all costs so I have no fear of cruising during hurricane season. So what if I miss a port, atleast I'm not at a work! izzyvet Posted June 12, 2004 #15 Share Posted June 12, 2004 Just be sure to arrive at the departure city at least a day ahead of time if you are cruising during hurricane season. Yes, cruises skip ports being hit by a hurricane, but that's hard to do when the home port gets hit. You want to be ready, in case there are flight delays, or if the ship is late or early leaving port in case of a hurricane. Cotton Posted June 13, 2004 #16 Share Posted June 13, 2004 I've said this many times on this subject: I live beachfront on the Gulf Coast, and have been through more hurricanes than I care to remember - including the worst - Camille, when I lost half my house I usually cruise in September. I feel much safer at sea than I do in my own home! The Captain WILL take the ship out of harm's way - so don't worry. "Laissez les bon temps rouler!"
