Coming to the Tampa Bay Area?

If you are coming soon to the Tampa Bay area and planning to get in the water at the local beaches remember to shuffle your feet, it is Sting Ray mating season. Locals often wear pool shoes this time of year and shuffle their feet in the sand because if you step directly on a String Ray they will sting you. This sting is usually nasty and requires medical attention.

We vacationed in St. Pete Beach a few summers ago. And even with shuffling I inadvertently stepped on a very large stingray. It stung me through my surf shoe (made a hole in it!)Needless to say it hurt quite a lot. But my biggest mistake was listening to a man who was setting up umbrellas at our resort's advice to just soak it in hot water. I did not seek medical attention and I became very ill for a week. So please seek medical advice if you are stung.
