gumballz Posted March 25, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 25, 2006 Marycherry43, I'll be going to Nassau next week and I've been reading the Bahamas board daily for any information I can find. While I don't personally know the answer to your question, I did a search for 'Nassau Beaches' and quite a few threads came up. Here's one that might answer your question for you in case nobody gets back to you. :) http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=158372&highlight=beaches+Nassau
Jabee Posted March 26, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 26, 2006 Hi, does anyone know the closest beach to the cruise ships in Nassau and is it in walking distance or do we need to take a cab? Thank you@[/quote Cable Beach is a long walk or a shot cab ride from the pier. Here is a description from Fromers. "Cable Beach (New Providence Island): The glittering shoreline of Cable Beach has easy access to shops, casinos, restaurants, watersports, and bars. It's a sandy 6.5km-long (4-mile) long strip, with a great array of facilities and activities." Here is a link to Fromers with a description of all the Public Beaches of Nassau. http://www.frommers.com/destinations/bahamas/0205020110.html
gumballz Posted March 27, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 27, 2006 Jabee, thank you for that link. I didn't even think to see if Frommers was online. :)
CaribbeanBound Posted March 30, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 30, 2006 Cable Beach is also just a 15-or-20 minute Jitney ride (#10) at a cost of just $1.
scubagirrl Posted March 30, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 30, 2006 Hi, does anyone know the closest beach to the cruise ships in Nassau and is it in walking distance or do we need to take a cab? Thank you@ There's a public beach just outside of town if you don't need the hotel amenities. They rent chaise lounges, and theres a vendor selling hot dogs and sodas on the promenade. It's a bit rocky, but the water is beautiful. Just walk around the front of the British Colonial Hilton and follow the roadway around to the beachfront. It's about a 15 minute walk from the dock. You can stroll along the wharf, or shop on Bay Street along the way. Beside this beach.. Cable Beach is the easiest beach with amenities to get to. Take a cab, or the #10 jitney from downtown to the Wyndham or Nassau Beach Hotel.
