Southampton Cruise Advice

Sailing 8/25 Prima. Traveling with two 80 yr olds who can get around but slowly and with a cane (one of them)

Doing 1-2 nts ahead of cruise. Flying into LHR. We’ve all been to London before. I’d be interested in just relaxing, allowing them to acclimate to time difference. Perhaps a nice, traditional pub meal or a fish and chips stand. Maybe some minimal walking around to browse a few shops. Not interested in museums or intensive sightseeing. I’d love a cute little countryside village to stay in but I don’t want to add any or much additional travel or make anything too complicated.

given the above, head right to Southampton from LHR? Stay by LHR? Or stay in London?

Also, car service recommendation? Private transport? I know bus/train would be cheaper but we likely just want and need easiest. Quickest but also minimizing in and out of transport/transferring luggage, etc

I think I have an idea. I can get a great rate at either Renaissance Heathrow or courtyard Heathrow. It seems Windsor is only 10 miles $25 taxi from there. What do you think about us staying at the Heathrow hotel to rest up, on our 1 free day, taxi to Windsor for a small bit of sightseeing and a meal and then private taxi from the hotel to Southampton day of cruise?

Taxi to Windsor @ $25 is a little out-of-date, latest I've heard is about £35 e/w.

But yes, handy from LHR and a good way to spend your day.

Before committing, do check whether Windsor Castle is open on that day.

If it isn't, consider switching to Hampton Court, Henry V111's favourite - similar distance

https://www.hrp.org.uk/hampton-court-palace/#gs.ag3uif.

Pre-booked private transfer to Southampton about £145 - £160.

Try https://westquaycars.com/ or https://www.aquacars.co.uk/ or https://gunwharf-executive-travel.co.uk/  (all based at the Southampton end, not suitable for LHR to Windsor or Hampton Court)

Or consider a door-to-door tour-transfer on your sailing day from your LHR hotel to your ship via Windsor or Stonehenge https://www.internationalfriends.co.uk/shore-excursions-and-cruise-transfers.html
